This role is categorized as onsite. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to the specified job site on a full-time basis.
The Role
The Installation Execution Engineer is responsible for planning managing and executing the installation of process equipment and conveyor systems across GM Manufacturing Engineering (ME) Centers. This role serves as the bridge between engineering design purchasing and construction execution ensuring projects are delivered safely on time within budget and in compliance with GMs technical and safety standards.
You will develop Statements of Requirements (SORs) support the bid and award process and oversee installation contractors through pre-mobilization installation and startup. Success in this role requires a blend of project management technical expertise and leadership to coordinate multiple stakeholders and drive flawless execution during critical launch and shutdown periods.
What Youll Do
Develop Installation Statements of Requirements (SORs) for new and major vehicle programs.
Partner with GM Purchasing to support supplier bid and award processes.
Provide technical leadership to installation and conveyor suppliers throughout project execution.
Manage all aspects of installation planning estimating scheduling and safety performance.
Coordinate with engineering plant personnel IE Layout and Material teams to ensure alignment on timing and deliverables.
Lead the pre-mobilization process ensuring readiness prior to contractor deployment.
Oversee equipment and conveyor installation from concept through validation including design review installation startup and debug.
Execute and manage shutdown activities coordinating across departments to meet schedule requirements.
Drive compliance with the GM ME Safety Contract Management Process and maintain a strong safety culture.
Provide project status updates timing reports and spending forecasts to ME Execution leadership.
Evaluate supplier performance and complete annual Seller Evaluations for all assigned projects.
Support all shifts and holidays as required to meet program milestones.
Stay current on new technologies and competitive installation practices to drive continuous improvement.
Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)
Minimum 3 years of experience in one or more of the following areas:
Construction management
Safety management
Tooling or conveyor installation
Conveyor design or integration
Manufacturing or plant project execution
Proven leadership experience with the ability to manage contractors and cross-functional teams.
Strong technical and professional problem-solving skills.
Effective interpersonal and communication skills to collaborate with business partners and internal stakeholders.
Proficiency in Microsoft Project and Excel for project tracking and scheduling.
Ability to use Autodesk Construction Cloud for project management and document control.
Ability to read and modify designs in AutoCAD.
What Will Give You a Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications)
Journeypersons Card with superintendent or construction leadership experience.
Technical or Engineering degree in Construction Management Mechanical Engineering or Electrical Engineering or equivalent practical experience.
Experience working in the union construction industry.
Understanding of engineering theory and principles related to mechanical and electrical systems.
Familiarity with controls automation robotics and process equipment integration.
Knowledge of Press Shop Body Shop Paint General Assembly or Global Propulsion Systems operations.
OSHA 30 certification.
Strong analytical ability and resourcefulness in solving complex unusual problems.
