About the Role
Reporting to the Director Financial Reporting and Planning the Sr Manager Accounting will play a pivotal role in overseeing the accounting operations for the Foundation. As the Sr Manager Accounting you will lead the full end-to-end accounting cycle including areas such as cash management accounts payable deferred accounts and both month-end and year-end close. You will lead the preparation and submission of regulatory filings such as the T3010 Registered Charity Information Return to the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) and lottery reporting to the Alcohol Gaming Commission of Ontario (AGCO). You will also function as the primary contact for our external audits and lead the preparation of the annual financial statements in accordance with GAAP. The Sr Manager Accounting will play a critical role in ensuring the integrity of the Foundations financial reporting and will drive process improvements in the pursuit of continued operational excellence and provide other support as required by the Director Financial reporting and Planning and VP Finance.
Key Responsibilities
Oversee the daily operations of the accounting function including cash management accounts payable deferred accounts general ledger and month end close.
Oversee the preparation of the monthly event accounting financial statements within our prescribed ten-day business close.
Oversee the monthly balance sheet analysis reconciliation and provide commentary over variances.
Review year-end entries including management fees sponsorship deferred events revenue and deferred lottery expenses in accordance with GAAP.
Prepare the annual event accounting and GAAP financial statements ensuring the accurate translation of our financial statements across both standards.
Oversight of life insurance policy updates and related accounting.
Review of HST/GST returns.
Manage the full cycle accounting for the lottery program including the review of monthly lottery accruals for lotteries in progress on-going management of deferred lottery assets and the recognition of revenue and expenses upon closure of a Lottery program. Own the lottery reporting for the PMCF Audit & Risk Committee.
Responsible for timely and accurate reporting to AGCO upon closure of a Lottery program in collaboration with external professional services provider and our third-party lottery operations vendor.
Support the external audit process (regular and lottery audit) and serve as the primary point of contact. This includes responding to auditor requests on a timely basis.
Review of T3010 Registered Charity Information Return including a briefing memo for the PMCF Audit & Risk Committee.
Maintain the integrity of the books within the NetSuite accounting system. Ensure financial data is accurate reconciled and that the processes are operating within a robust control environment.
Support key projects in the Finance area.
Identify and implement best practices within the finance department including electronic workflow digitization job documentation and other efficiencies.
Ensure our policies and procedures documentation is complete and updated to reflect changes made.
Develop and maintain strong relationships with stakeholders (internal staff volunteers auditors suppliers service providers and donors) to ensure the efficiency and effectiveness of financial management operations.
Own the relationship with our banking partners and with our accounting software provider.
Support the financial reporting and analysis function as required.
Provide other support as required by the Senior Director Finance and VP Finance.
Qualifications :
Education/Experience:
A post-secondary degree in accounting or finance.
5 years of progressive experience supporting a full end-to-end accounting function.
A CPA designation is mandatory.
Experience working for a Canadian not-for-profit with in-depth knowledge of accounting standards for not-for-profit organizations (ASNPO).
Experience in a public accounting firm or audit-like environment.
Knowledge Skill Abilities:
Experience preparing a T3010 return.
Experience working with NetSuite (Oracle) an asset.
Exceptional organizational skills with the ability to manage competing tasks from various stakeholders.
High proficiency with Microsoft tools especially Excel
Excellent communication skills both verbal and written.
A successful track record of fostering a highly motivated team within a positive culture.
High attention to detail with the ability to identify inconsistencies and errors.
Ownership of your work and demonstrate a high degree of accountability.
Ability to work independently and prioritize effectively in a fast-paced environment.
