Help build effective relationships with our societal stakeholders

Join our team and play an important role in building effective relationships with the societal stakeholders of ING Netherlands. Your focus will be on the societal stakeholders of Business Banking NL: government politics and interest groups.

The Supervision Public & Regulatory Affairs NL team (SuPRA NL) team is dedicated to build and maintain effective relationships with government supervisors and special interest groups and advise senior management and other relevant internal stakeholders on supervision public and regulatory affairs.

Your primary focus will be on the societal stakeholders connected to Business Banking NL. This franchise serves over 600000 business clients - from self-employed individuals and micro-enterprises to MidCorp companies with annual revenues of up to 250 million. Our products and services are designed to help these businesses thrive covering everything from financing payments and cash management to insurance and digital accounting solutions.

Supporting businesses is central to our role in society as a bank. As such a wide range of societal stakeholders take an active interest in how we fulfil this responsibility. These include members of parliament the Ministry of Economic Affairs the Ministry of Finance the national association for Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises and various trade organizations. Youll be responsible for building strong relationships with these stakeholders - keeping them informed about relevant developments and sharing INGs perspectives on legislation and policy. Youll lead INGs advocacy efforts on Business Banking topics and support senior management - primarily the Head of Business Banking NL and the CEO NL - in navigating the stakeholder landscape. Collaboration across the sector particularly through the Dutch Banking Association will be a key part of your role.

Roles and responsibilities

As Advisor Public Affairs you will be responsible for:

  • Pursuing ING NLs strategic advocacy goals through:

    • Monitoring developments in the societal stakeholder field

    • Stakeholder engagement (e.g. meetings network events and roundtables such as the ING SME Advisory Board)

    • Drafting position papers outlining INGs stance on market and policy developments

    • Making INGs voice heard in the public debate through effective use of media attention

  • Advising internal stakeholders especially senior management on:

    • Developments in the societal stakeholder field: relevant opportunities and risks

    • Business decisions that impact our key societal stakeholders and/or reputation

How to succeed

The following skills and experience will be needed to succeed in this role:

  • Understanding our business: thorough understanding of the Business Banking franchise especially the financing products

  • Understanding our stakeholder field: preferably through having worked with or for government supervisors or special interest groups

  • Managing stakeholders: anticipating and balancing the needs of multiple internal and external stakeholders

  • External communications: conveying INGs strategy and advocacy points in a convincing manner in speech writing and PowerPoint

  • Building trust: gaining the confidence and trust of others through honesty integrity and authenticity

  • Strategic mindset: seeing ahead to future possibilities and risks and translating these into a structured plan

  • Impact focused: prioritizing activities to optimize impact for ING NL

  • Speak up: daring to challenge opinions and decisions of internal stakeholders including senior management

  • Excellent language skills in Dutch and English

  • More than 10 years relevant work experience since graduation

The team

SuPRA NL is a team of six colleagues. We are part of the CEO domain of ING Netherlands. SuPRA NL works closely with SuPRA Group to ensure alignment and consistency between Group level (responsible for all 40 countries ING operates in) and local level (responsible for The Netherlands home market of ING).
