The SHARE Military Initiative at Shepherd Center provides rehabilitation and community based care to US military service members who have served since 9/11/2001. The program utilizes Shepherds full rehabilitation continuum of evaluation and treatment services for those who have sustained mild to moderate brain injury along with co-occurring psychological diagnoses.

The Peer Support Lead Liaison is responsible for guiding staff Peer Liaisons and program volunteer Mentors to best practices for day-to-day activity. Peer Support Lead is also responsible for scheduling patient interactions with Mentors for the opportunity to meet and talk with individuals sharing similar experiences and circumstances maintaining program tracking spreadsheets identifying individuals who have made successful reintegration into the community as potential volunteer Mentors and to meet one-on-one with individuals to cover commonality shared experience and the value of strategies imparted by therapy staff.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Supervises trains schedules and monitors peer support volunteers.
  • Recruits former patients and families as volunteers who have successfully integrated into the community to meet needs of diverse patient population.
  • Participates in professional presentations.
  • Observes Clients and families as potential future volunteers if they successfully integrate into the community.
  • Meets regularly with the patients/family members and documents interactions.
  • May assist with collecting information for research projects.
  • May be asked to participate in community outings.
  • Fosters clients/family independence growth and development through shared experience and commonality.
  • Encourages patients and family members participation in education classes and therapy sessions and the value of strategies imparted by Shepherd staff. Helps to facilitate peer support community meetings. May participate in a joint effort to keep social media efforts engaging.

REQUIRED MINIMUM EDUCATION

  • Preference of bachelors degree or higher.

REQUIRED MINIMUM CERTIFICATION

  • No professional certifications required.

REQUIRED MINIMUM EXPERIENCE

o United States veteran

o Preference given to SHARE graduates who have exemplified successful application of SHARE treatment strategies post graduation from program.

o A minimum of at least three year of life experience with their disability.

o Three years departmental work experience to develop familiarity with concepts practices and procedures.

o Strong personal ownership with the ability to set and meet high professional standards.

o Ability to analyze multiple complex situations to create and implement solutions; work effectively in a team environment; be self-motivated and self-disciplined; communicate clearly and accurately in both verbal and written mode; accurately and concisely describe problems and solutions; focus on details; coordinate and prioritize multiple projects simultaneously.

o Foster and maintain a commitment to provide outstanding customer service reflecting Shepherd Centers mission and pillars of excellence.

REQUIRED MINIMUM SKILLS

  • Excellent judgment communication skills and empathy.
  • Self-motivated dependable able to meet deadlines excellent time management skills.
  • Must be capable of scheduling and supervising volunteers and assessing program development/delivery needs.
  • Must demonstrate leadership public relations and customer service skills. Ability to appropriately handle sensitive and confidential information and communications. Knowledge of medical terminology applicable to role.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Intermediate to Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite software products.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Moving about the hospital from floor to floor in and out of patient rooms gyms activity areas.
  • Will be required to board and ride on Shepherd transportation vehicles for the purposes of community outings.
  • May be asked to perform personal ADLs.

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Role will be mostly indoors on campus.
  • Some potential for exposure to blood and body fluids.
  • Some local travel for presentations.
  • May be exposed to outdoor elements including heat and cold.
