Job Summary

AECOM is seeking an Entry-Level Mechanical Engineer to be based in our Arlington VA office.

This position is expected to begin on June 2026.

The Mechanical Engineer will be responsible for the following items:

  • Performs specific portions of a broader assignment under the mentoring of an experienced engineer.
  • Gathers and correlates basic engineering data using established and well-defined procedures.
  • Prepares designs calculations sketches diagrams schematic drawings and construction drawings.
  • Evaluate select apply standard engineering techniques procedures and judgement based on experience to design HVAC systems in buildings using building information modeling.
  • Proposes approach to solve new problems encountered using modifications of standard procedures or methods developed in previous assignments.
  • Performs work in accordance with the agreed-upon budget and schedule with little supervision.
  • Independently performs all the tasks necessary to complete the primary design elements for engineering works.
  • Performs comparative analysis of system configurations and evaluates building performance metrics through advanced energy simulation and modeling software.

 


Qualifications :

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelors Degree in Mechanical Engineering Architectural Engineering or related field.
  • Due to the nature of work U.S. Citizenship is required.
  • Valid U.S. Drivers License required to visit project sites clients and other AECOM a condition of employment selected candidate must pass a Motor Vehicle Records review.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Passed Fundamentals of Engineering Exam (EIT / FE)
  • Experience utilizing industry standard software packages such as AutoCAD Revit Bluebeam (pdf editor) or similar.
  • Full understanding and ability to complete accurate and coordinated project design assignments with the ability to review team members work for quality.
  • Experience sizing ductwork systems and modeling in 2D and 3D platforms.
  • Experience sizing hot water condenser water and chilled water piping systems and modeling in 2D and 3D platforms.
  • Knowledge of ASHRAE Standard 62.1 Ventilation and Acceptable Indoor Air Quality.
  • Knowledge of ASHRAE Standard 90.1 Energy Standard for Buildings.
  • Ability to work on multiple projects concurrently.
  • Comfortable working in a high energy environment with frequent deadlines.
  • Successfully performed the role of a design engineer on various projects.
  • Good interpersonal organizational verbal and written communication skills.

Additional Information :

  • Relocation assistance is not available for this position.
  • Travel is required for this position.
  • This position requires a hybrid work schedule which includes in office work in Arlington VA. The selected candidate must be available to work in Arlington VA on a scheduled basis.
