Specialized Tutor
Job Description
Elementary tutor to provide home-hospital tutoring which includes individualized academic support assessing student needs implementing personalized learning plans and helping students master concepts develop study skills and complete assessments/projects in the home setting. Key responsibilities include facilitating a positive learning environment adapting to different learning styles providing feedback and communicating with students parents or school-based teams. Strong communication subject matter expertise patience and problem-solving skills are essential qualities for a successful tutor. Tutor must successfully implement individualized accommodations and modifications for students with more complex physical or medical needs.
Key Responsibilities
- Individualized Instruction: Deliver one-on-one or small group support in specific subjects tailoring lessons to individual student needs and learning styles.
- Curriculum Support: Clarify concepts taught in class help with homework and provide assistance with problem-solving report writing and test preparation.
- Assessment and Planning: Evaluate student progress identify areas for improvement and implement customized lesson plans and learning strategies.
- Positive Learning Environment: Foster a welcoming and engaging atmosphere that motivates students and builds their confidence.
- Progress Monitoring and Feedback: Monitor student performance adjust teaching methods as needed and provide constructive feedback to students parents or guardians.
- Communication: Use active listening strategies to understand student needs and maintain open lines of communication with students parents and other educational professionals.
Essential Skills and Qualifications
- Subject Matter Expertise: Deep knowledge of the subject(s) being tutored is crucial for providing accurate guidance.
- Teaching and Communication: Excellent communication interpersonal and active listening skills are essential for connecting with students and conveying information effectively.
- Patience and Adaptability: The ability to be patient understanding and adaptable to different learning styles is fundamental to a tutors success.
- Problem-Solving: Strong problem-solving skills are needed to help students overcome academic challenges.
- Organizational Skills: Good time management and organizational abilities are necessary for planning sessions and tracking student progress.
- Rapport Building: The ability to build a strong trusting relationship with students is vital for fostering a positive learning experience.
Requirements:
- Massachusetts DESE Certification in elementary education special education or appropriate related services
- Experience in working with children with disabilities and/or complex developmental medical or learning needs
- Must be available to work weekday afternoons and early evenings (Must be available M-F after 2:30pm)
- Must be the kind of person who is warm caring respectful and have a strong desire to work with children
- Ability and comfort in working in home and community-based settings
Additional Information:
- Competitive hourly compensation
- Tutoring may be up to 10 hours per week
- Reports to Director of Special Education Principal or Designee
