The City of Bessemer is seeking a motivated Recreation Supervisor. This role is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of multiple recreation centers and/or aquatic facilities. They develop and implement a comprehensive program in order to meet the recreational needs of the community. They also plan schedule and oversee athletic activities leagues programs and special events that take place in the city. Employees in this job class typically work both in an indoor office setting and visit outdoor sites. They also may be required to work on evenings and weekends.COMPENSATION & BENEFITS:

The following are job-related qualifications that are required for employment consideration for this position:
Option A:
Drivers license.
Bachelors degree in Sports and Recreation Management Parks and Recreation Management Physical Education Business Administration or a highly related field.
Verifiable experience directly supervising employees which includes coordinating employees work activities delegating tasks to employees and reviewing employees work performance.
Option B:
Drivers license.
Verifiable experience directly supervising employees which includes coordinating employees work activities delegating tasks to employees and reviewing employees work performance.
Experience communicating with a diverse group of people (i.e. public co-workers subordinates etc.) through both written and verbal communication.
Experience working as a parks and recreational professional which includes planning implementing and directing large-scale recreational and sports programs.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
The following are job-related qualifications deemed desirable by Merit System agencies. These qualifications may be considered by a hiring agency when reviewing applications and inviting candidates to participate in subsequent steps in the selection processes.
Experience using various computer programs including Outlook Word Excel and PowerPoint.
Experience assisting/developing departmental budgets.
TYPICAL JOB DUTIES:
Prepares monitors and administers departmental or organizational budget by reviewing spending trends expenditure reports analyzing financial data and ensuring expenditures are within annual budgetary limits.
Communicates and interacts with various groups of people (e.g. public recreation center patrons city officials media outlets) to inform and promote parks and recreation activities and special events and to answer questions handle concerns and gather feedback.
Develops and implements policies procedures and guidelines for the Recreation Center and its associated programs and events by staying abreast of best practices in the parks and recreation industry and conferring with staff to ensure that operations are conducted in a safe and efficient manner that meet the needs of the community.
Procures and/or manages inventory (i.e. supplies and equipment) to ensure the products and services are available to meet the operational needs of each department.
Oversees and manages operations of multiple recreation centers by coordinating with Recreation Center Directors and other staff to plan and direct the development and implementation of quality services programs and events that meet the needs of the community.
Supervises staff by assigning and distributing work directing staff in their job duties monitoring progress of work providing feedback and/or training.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Job is primarily sedentary involving sitting for long periods of time. At times job may require light to moderate physical exertion including lifting carrying bending stooping kneeling crouching or twisting. Job may also involve occasional lifting of items or objects weighing up to 50 lbs.WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Work is conducted both indoors in an office setting as well as regular field visits to outdoor worksites. Incumbents may be required to work nights and/or weekends. Job may include exposure to potentially hazardous working conditions (e.g. moving vehicles biological and/or chemical hazards etc.). Job may also require exposure to inclement weather when working outdoors (e.g. extreme heat cold rain snow wind etc.).EEO STATEMENT:
