Reporting to the Recovery Supervisor the Relief Housing Case Worker will be a crucial member of a multidisciplinary team working on a transitional housing program. The program consists of a 12-month transitional housing program with recovery-oriented systems of care available to clients. The Relief Housing Case Worker will have an emphasis on skill development for independent living in areas such as financial literacy employment and connection to long-term/post-program community-based supports such as mental and physical health social and recreational programs cultural supports and others.
Position Type: Casual Fixed Term till March 2026
Schedule: Shifts are scheduled on an as-needed basis including days evenings and overnights.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Connect with clients on an ongoing basis to assist in securing permanent long-term housing;
- Advocate on behalf of clients with landlords;
- Build rapport with clients to support the achievement of goals identified in their goal plans;
- Ensure that clients daily needs are met by maintaining ongoing communication;
- Provide an open and welcoming environment for clients to share their housing concerns and address their needs;
- Assist clients in building skills for daily living through ongoing support and guidance;
- Support the working relationship between the client and their support network;
- Maintain clear lines of communication with external organizations serving the client;
- Collaborate with internal Mustard Seed services to provide comprehensive wrap-around supports for the client;
- Manage a client case load as assigned by the Recovery Supervisor;
- Conduct wellness checks every 24 hours or as required and provide first aid as needed;
- Advocate on behalf of clients and ensure their needs are met;
- Document client interactions referrals progress and any changes in behavior;
- Complete incident reports and daily logs in a timely manner;
- Welcome and support volunteers and students;
- Conduct security rounds;
- Bring forward identified client risks or issues to the supervisor and colleagues to develop an action plan;
- Support Property Management Advocates and Clinicians as needed;
- Host events and groups engaging in intentional interactions with clients to build rapport and foster community;
- Contribute to the development and implementation of new groups as assigned;
- Provide support to the Recovery Supervisor as needed.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS
- Diploma or undergraduate degree in a related field;
- Minimum of 1 year of experience working with marginalized individuals;
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively within a cross-functional team;
- Ability to interact with a variety of individuals in a professional and empathetic manner;
- Strong administrative and computer skills;
- Proficient in conflict resolution and the ability to effectively manage residents in crisis situations;
- A passion for being part of the movement to end homelessness in Alberta.
WORKING CONDITIONS

- Moderate physical effort is required to successfully accomplish the essential job functions.

- Employees are to be aware that many of our clients may experience difficulties or impairment at times which could result in them uttering threats discriminatory statements and other insults at your person. This may be in a raised voice or in seeing unpredictable behaviour up to and including the possibility of them becoming aggressive.
- Training on how to respond is provided but this is to be considered typical working conditions. Many of our clients are unaware of the impact of these comments.
