What youll build

The aim of this work is to lay the foundations for the development of an AI-based prototype. To create a solid foundation for later programming we assume that we need to interview five clients from different industries about their approach to determining the appropriate eligible screening-scope. We currently assume that the target solution will function in the same way as a other words we assume that the determination of the eligible scope will be a semi-automated process.

By better understanding customers target processes we believe we will be able to identify the data sources necessary to determine the appropriate screening scope as a prerequisite for democratizing the EU taxonomy. These sources will then be the target object for examining the design principles for the already mentioned semi-automated AI prototype (robo-advisor).

Since the derivation of design principles is initially a theoretical exercise we expect a student who is interested in developing and conducting standardized interviews supported by technical solutions such as MaxQDA for storing and evaluating the standardized interviews. Since this is an innovation topic related to artificial intelligence technical knowledge of AI is also important for conducting the interviews and subsequently deriving the IT design principles.

We therefore want to carry out a masters thesis with the aim of analyzing existing customer processes and the data sources used then evaluating the database to be able to derive the IT design principles. The thesis then concludes with a first IT prototype presented as a mock-up solution.

It is intended to then publish the masters thesis in a scientific journal together with the master student. The publication has no influence on the grades.

• Preferred fields of study:
  • Computer Science IT AI Engineering or related field
  • Knowledgeable in methodical work especially in relation to expert interviews
• Computer skills:
  • Natural Language Processing (NLP); Chat-Bot; Large Language Models
  • IT Design and IT Architecture (technical & functional)
• Language skills:
  • German native or at least fluently
  • English fluently or native
• Practical experience with corporate customers and/or basic knowledge regarding EU Taxonomy desirable

Where you belong

The EU Commission aims to make Europe the worlds first climate-neutral continent by 2050. To support this transition the EU Taxonomy was introduced as a regulatory framework to distinguish sustainable from non-sustainable economic activities. Starting in 2025 approximately 50000 companies will be required to report the proportion of their business activities CAPEX OPEX and revenues that are Taxonomy-compliant.

A key bottleneck in this reporting process is the identification and screening of eligible business activitiesa process that is currently manual resource-intensive and prone to inconsistency. This complexity not only risks creating an unfair advantage for large homogenous businesses but also undermines the EUs goal of a fair and democratic green transition.

The aim of the thesis is to prepare and conduct expert interviews with five selected SAP customers to derive design principles for an AI-based prototype from the customers specific requirements.
