POSITION DETAILS

Job Title: Family Health Intern
Salary: unpaid

Work Schedule: Flexible

  • LPHI offers traditional (M-F 8 am-5 pm) flexible (for example M-F 10 am-7pm) and compressed work schedules (for example M-Th 8 am-7 pm). Schedule details finalized between employee and manager.

Location: This is a Louisiana-based hybrid position with occasional (<10%) travel required

  • LPHI maintains an office in New Orleans if the employee prefers to be hybrid or full-time in-office
  • Employee must reside in Louisiana during the time of employment

Team: Family Health Capacity Building

Reports To: Sr. Program Manager Equity

Supervises: None

Primary Relationships: The intern will primarily work with the Sr. Program Manager for Equity & Family Health the Family Health Coordinator and other team members across the organization. The intern may also work with external state-wide partners depending on the assigned task.

ABOUT THE POSITION

LPHI is seeking qualified interns to assist with maternal health and healthcare access initiatives that are aligned with the organizations Family Health & Capacity Building priorities. The selected intern will work closely with LPHI staff on literature research information gathering preparation of presentations reports and other dissemination products. LPHI welcomes masters - level students to apply for this internship. Interns should be willing to support family health initiatives that include evaluation data research and program development. This internship opportunity will be an unpaid non-benefit eligible position. Commitments are part-time and will range in project length and time periods ideally for a 1-year period.


LPHI is headquartered in New Orleans with employees based throughout the state. This position is New Orleans-based (fully in-office/ hybrid).


Primary Duties and Responsibilities

Interns will work directly with the Sr. Program Manager for Equity and gain experience by:

  • Conduct research and literature reviews
  • Assist with synthesizing findings and drafting documents
  • Develop evaluation surveys
  • Support LPHI staff in writing reports and other dissemination items and drafting presentations policy and data briefs related to maternal health
  • Develop informational materials such as infographics one-pagers and toolkits
  • Support project management and coordination including writing agendas taking minutes and disseminating relevant information
  • Attend team and partner meetings
  • Support collaborative partner events as needed (ex. coordination outreach activities etc.)


ABOUT YOU

Position Requirements

  • Masters degree in progress (or Undergraduate degree in progress with previous experience)
  • Experience or interest in maternal health reproductive health and healthcare access
  • Excellent written and oral communication
  • Experience with creating engaging visualizations (PowerPoint Canva etc.)
  • Interest in public health health systems research and/or evaluation methodologies

Skills Knowledge and Abilities

  • Strong research and analytical skills
  • Excellent writing and communication skills
  • Well-organized self-directed and able to complete multiple tasks in a timely and efficient manner
  • Ability to learn new subject areas quickly
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Applications
  • A commitment to actively working in alignment with public health with other social racial and economic justice movements
  • Ability to function independently and as a team member
