Job Description

Presents educational programs to school groups and field trip groups on site at Clark Planetarium. Provides positive informative on-site interactions through scheduled programming and exhibit exploration. Assist in additional projects or scientific demonstrations for public relations or other events to support the overall education mission.

SHIFT DETAILS:

This is a seasonal position lasting six months to coincide with the school year in April/May.

PRIMARY DUTIES:

  • Actively review the calendar of shows and presentations in advance.
  • Present to audiences at a range of developmental backgrounds including both K-12 students and adults.
  • Presents educational programs to school and public audiences.
  • Provides educational interactions with school and public audiences.
  • Presents scientific demonstrations to school groups and public audiences as needed.
  • Attends meetings and training sessions.
  • Other duties as assigned. Examples include but are not limited to: teaching summer camp sessions participating in school science night type programs etc.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Basic computer operations including Microsoft Office
  • Highly dependable punctual and accountable
  • Engaging and enthusiastic personality
  • Ability to describe and convey science principles and concepts to a wide range of ages and backgrounds
  • Ability to collaborate and communicate with team members and managers
  • Able to perform physical duties including: Must be able to lift 50 lbs.
  • Must be able to stand and walk for extended periods of time
  • Must be comfortable using educational and scientific equipment including but not limited to: liquid nitrogen flammable gases compressed air etc.

Background Check Information

Due to the nature of this position the successful applicant must pass a required background check through fingerprinting and enrollment in the continuous RAP Back (Record of Arrest and Prosecution Back) program in accordance with current County Human Resources policy requirements.

TEMPORARY POSITIONS:

An At Will FLSA non-exempt employee who is not eligible for County benefits and who must work an average of 29 hours or less per week or an average of 129 hours or less per month.

  • Must work an average of 29 hours or less per week or an average of 129 hours or less per month.
  • Are not eligible for County benefits except as otherwise provided for by policy.
  • Are not considered merit employees.
  • Are at will employees who may be terminated for any reason without notice and without a pre-termination hearing.
