The Boise State University Department of Music invites applications for an Assistant Teaching Professor of Musicology. This position is eligible for promotion but not tenure. We seek a dynamic multifaceted individual to lead and teach in our music history course sequence and the University Foundations courses in music. Additional duties will be aligned with the applicants expertise and the needs of the department.
Lead musicology/music history area and teach undergraduate and graduate courses
Teach a graduate research methods course
Mentor undergraduate and graduate students in research and academic writing
Lead and teach in the departments University Foundations course offerings providing academic leadership in curriculum development and instructional coordination
Teach additional course(s) based upon candidates expertise and needs in the department
Contribute to curricular innovation and revision within the department
Participate in Department of Music activities and committee work as load permits
The Department of Music housed within the School of the Arts and the College of Arts and Sciences has approximately 175 undergraduate and graduate students 20 full-time faculty and 25 adjunct faculty. We offer BM degrees in Composition Music Education and Performance; a BA degree in Music; and MM degrees in Choral Conducting Music Education and Performance. The workload for this position is 80% teaching (12 credits per semester) and 20% service.

A Masters degree in music
Substantial experience and demonstrated excellence in teaching (e.g. experience teaching at the college/university level equivalent experience in music)
Ability to teach and mentor undergraduate and graduate students with writing and research skills
A doctoral degree in musicology music history ethnomusicology or a closely related discipline
Demonstrated excellence and ability to teach across a broad spectrum of historical and cultural musical traditions
A record of scholarly activity
Experience in academic leadership particularly within the music history and the University Foundations curricula
Engagement with contemporary pedagogical tools and approaches including the thoughtful integration of technology in the classroom
Additional area(s) of interest and expertise in music

Salary ranges from $ depending on experience.
Our standard faculty contract is a 9-month contract (unless otherwise noted) with pay and benefits spread over 12 months. This is a yearly renewable contract unless noted that the position is temporary. More information about faculty contract and work days is available here.
