Job Duties:

In partnership with people with disabilities the DRS Field Rehabilitation Services Division assists individuals with disabilities to make informed choices that will maximize their employment through coordinated service delivery. DRS staff will assist the Workforce Network to deliver quality workforce services to individuals with disabilities who want to work and employers seeking to hire them to the extent that this provides benefit to the DRS program.


We are seeking a DRS Unit Supervisor to supervise a designated group within a large office.

Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Directly supervises office staff and provides clinical and technical assistance to entry and senior level counselors.
  • Provides comprehensive vocational rehabilitation services which result in employment to individuals with disabilities within established policies and procedures.
  • Core case management services may include assessment and rehabilitation program planning guidance and counseling training physical/mental restoration career exploration and job placement.
  • Caseload consists of individuals with youth with disabilities adults with disabilities serious mental illness substance abuse hearing impairment or a combination.
  • Primary focus on the achievement of employment outcomes ensures efficient and effective daily operations of the designated group.



Other duties and/or special projects as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

In accordance with 34 CFR 361.10 34 CFR 361.11 and Virginias Combined State Plan under the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) applicants are required to have a masters degree in rehabilitation counseling or a closely related field. Please note that the transcripts must display the date that the degree was awarded.

Knowledge/Experience:

  • Considerable knowledge of the social economic medical vocational and emotional issues impacting persons with disabilities; interviewing evaluation and counseling techniques; methods and tools for career counseling and exploration; and ADA compliance requirements.
  • Working knowledge of Windows based computer software.
  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of vocational service delivery to TANF SMI Deaf and Hard of Hearing Youth with disabilities and adults with disabilities.
  • Comprehensive experience performing case management; working with individuals with diverse disabilities; applying a variety of assessment and counseling techniques; developing comprehensive service plans and coordinating community and financial resources.
  • Experience with supervising or directing the work of others.
  • Considerable experience with conflict resolution mediation or facilitation.


Abilities/Skills:

  • Ability to communicate effectively and establish and maintain effective working relationships with customers and the professional community.
  • Ability to organize and manage multiple and sometimes unrelated responsibilities in a timely manner; to prioritize duties and exercise responsible judgment with minimal supervision.

Additional Considerations

Certification or coursework in Counseling.
