Job Summary

Description

The Genetic Specialist Coordinator will report to the department clinical manager and will work with all department staff. Under the supervision of the genetic counselor and geneticist the Genetic Specialist Coordinator will provide support to facilitate patient visits and genetic testing. This includes triaging patients for appointments collecting information and records prior to visits organizing genetic testing and coordinating follow-ups. The applicant will need to be able to communicate effectively professionally and sensitively with patients providers and team members. The position requires exceptional organizational and problem-solving skills. The applicant should have the ability to work efficiently independently and onsite as part of a team.



Responsibilities
  1. Triage referrals in coordination with the genetic counselor.
  2. Schedule patient visits including pre- and post-test appointments and lab visits.
  3. Conduct patient intake including collecting family histories and necessary documents and medical reports.
  4. Prepare materials for patient visits including pedigree appropriate consent forms and other pertinent documentation.
  5. Assist patients with utilizations of telehealth services.
  6. Coordinate genetic testing including preparing test requisitions shipping sample kits and organizing sample collection for telehealth patients.
  7. Communicate with labs and insurance to facilitate testing and coverage. This may include initiating pre-authorizations and letters of medical necessity.
  8. Communicate insurance information to patients i.e. co-pays or deductibles.
  9. Receive and organize genetic test results from laboratories.
  10. Input pertinent documentation into the electronic health record.
  11. Communicate with referring and referred to providers to coordinate patient care.
  12. Answer and resolve routine phone inquiries or email requests and triage calls/ emails to Genetic Counselors.
  13. Facilitate data entry update and maintain clinical/research databases.
  14. Assist with research projects as directed.
  15. Continue to improve workflow including steps related to patient appointment intake lab ordering/ testing and return of results etc.


Qualifications
  • Associate degree Bachelors preferred.
  • 1-2 years of related administrative or program support experience.
  • Interpersonal skills to effectively interact with patients and referring physicians.
