Ronald McDonald House Charities of Greater Washington DC (RMHCDC) has been serving families in the Greater Washington DC area for over 40 years. Our mission is to provide essential services that remove barriers strengthen families and promote healing when children need healthcare. We do this through three core programs - Ronald McDonald House Ronald McDonald Family Rooms and our Hospitality Cart with a Heart. RMHCDC is built on the simple idea that nothing else should matter when a family is focused on the health of their child. RMHCDC helps make this a reality by providing housing meals transportation innovative educational and support programs and more for our families in need.

Vice President of Community Engagement

The Vice President of Community Engagement will report to the Chief Operating Officer

Position Overview:

The VP Community Engagement is responsible for the creation and execution of an overall plan for community and volunteer outreach and engagement including raising awareness about the organization and the development of engagement and partnership pathways for individuals and organizations including medical partners and government agencies that align with our mission. The VP is responsible for engaging and expanding RMHCDC community partners and volunteers through identification recruitment cultivation proactive engagement training stewardship and convening functions including annual meetings and special events.

This position will lead all event operations and will be the lead for RMHCDCs signature annual event the Red Shoe 5k including logistics budget and revenue management strategy and optimization event production and logistics audience development coordination of vendors and volunteers liaising with community and philanthropic partners inter-departmental coordination and reporting.

Supervisory Responsibilities and/or Collaborative Responsibilities:

The Vice President will supervise the Community & Volunteer Engagement Manager and work collaboratively with Development Marketing and Communications House Operations and Finance.

Essential Functions:

Community and Volunteer Engagement

  • Develop expand and steward mutually beneficial relationships with RMHCDC community partners and volunteers.
  • Work with House Operations team to develop communication and outreach strategies that will facilitate maximum occupancy in the two RMHCDC Houses.
  • Facilitate speaking engagements for the President and CEO with community partners.
  • Attend community partner and volunteer events and represent the organization in position related speaking engagements.

Medical Partnerships & In-Hospital Programs

  • Manage and strengthen relationships with key medical partners to support RMHCDCs mission through collaboration funding opportunities and program engagement.
  • Oversee in-hospital programs such as Family Rooms and Hospitality Carts ensuring high-quality delivery volunteer coordination and alignment with medical partner protocols and family needs.
  • Drive awareness and engagement by promoting RMHCDCs services within the medical community and tracking program outcomes for effective stewardship and impact reporting.
  • Identify and pursue funding and sponsorship opportunities in collaboration with medical partners to support shared initiatives and expand program reach.

Government Relations

  • Build and manage strategic relationships with local city county and state government agencies to increase awareness of and support for RMHCDCs mission and programs.
  • Identify and pursue government funding sponsorship and partnership opportunities ensuring alignment with organizational goals and compliance with requirements.
  • Manage relationship with local Police and Fire departments.

Annual Meeting and Special Event Management

  • Drive profitable Return on Investment for all annual meetings and special events.
  • Collaborate with Development team on building a diverse portfolio of event sponsors.
  • Assist with marketing including collateral materials related to event promotion (website Facebook email print media etc.).
  • Develop and manage the current and prospective donor/attendee engagement strategy.
  • Support the President and CEO and VP Development with engagement of donors through annual meetings and special events.
  • Collaborate across departments to engage RMHCDC constituents in event opportunities.
  • Maintain fiscal responsibilities including internal budget monitoring bill paying vendor cost negotiation and projecting and reconciling event revenue.
  • Manage and update event donor relationship and fundraising database and prospect lists.

Qualifications

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Bachelors Degree Advanced Degree preferred.
  • 10 years of experience in government relations health and human services or medical partnerships planning events working with volunteers and relationship management.
  • Proficient in Neon CRM (or similar database) MS Office Suite project management software; is willing and able to learn new programs.
  • Experience with public speaking and representing an organization at community events and appearances.
  • Previous experience working in a non-profitenvironment preferred.

The Details:

  • Position Location: Local to the Greater Washington DC area. This position will work a hybrid schedule with significant regional travel expectations and occasional national travel. Evenings and weekend work required on occasion.
  • Compensation is commensurate with experience and includes a comprehensive benefits package.
