Department Head of Communication Sciences & Disorders
The Department of Communication Sciences & Disorders (CDIS) at Oklahoma State University seeks applications for the position of Department Head. The position is an 11-month appointment at the rank of advanced Associate or Full Professor with tenure to begin July 1 2026.
Responsibilities:
We seek a dynamic and experienced faculty member who will foster excellence in the educational research and outreach mission of the department. The successful candidate should have a proven track record in academic leadership research and teaching. The Head is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the departments mission and for articulating a strategic vision for the department that aligns with the college and universitys mission as a preeminent land-grant R1 institution.
The Department Head manages the day-to-day operations of the department including resource allocation and fiscal management support of faculty research and professional growth oversight of clinic operations and scope of services clinical partnership supervision and development of all faculty and staff and review of curriculum student recruitment and program development with a focus on student addition to leading the administrative staff and supporting faculty research and educational endeavors the Head is expected to maintain strong relations with alumni community partners and agencies to be available to students and to advance the departments community outreach and service efforts.
About the Department of Communication Sciences & Disorders
The Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders has a dynamic team of five full-time tenure-track faculty one full-time teaching faculty and seven full-time clinical faculty including a clinic manager. The departments Speech-Language and Hearing clinics operate year-round serving over 400 clients in Stillwater and the surrounding area through weekly therapy audiological services and summer camps. Academic programs comprise an undergraduate bachelor of science a postbaccalaureate certificate a minor in Communication Sciences and Disorders three undergraduate certificates for dyslexia speech-language pathology assistants audiology assistants a graduate certificate in dyslexia and a graduate master of science. Most undergraduate classes are offered both in person and online. The department has 223 undergraduate students and 57 graduate students on the Stillwater campus as well as a small satellite undergraduate program on the Tulsa campus. The research interests of the department include collaborative and interdisciplinary research across and outside the campus. The department is a home for a variety of research labs in different fields of communication sciences and disorders.
