Job Summary
Director of Fleet TriSMART Solar
Overview
TriSMART Solar is seeking a Director of Fleet to lead our vehicle operations ensuring our fleet runs efficiently safely and cost-effectively. This leader will oversee all aspects of fleet management including vehicle procurement maintenance compliance fuel and toll optimization telematics and logistics coordination while driving accountability operational excellence and alignment with company-wide goals.
The ideal candidate has experience managing large-scale commercial fleets preferably within construction energy or field service industries and thrives in fast-paced dynamic environments where operational precision matters.
Key Responsibilities
Fleet Operations & Management
Oversee the entire company fleet across all markets (service vans trucks trailers and specialty vehicles).
Maintain accurate vehicle inventory assignments and utilization metrics.
Implement and enforce policies around daily clean-out driver inspections and vehicle upkeep.
Lead preventive maintenance scheduling ensuring minimal downtime and rapid turnaround.
Optimize vehicle allocation across markets based on job load and operational needs.
Compliance Safety & Cost Control
Ensure all vehicles meet DOT state and federal safety requirements.
Oversee driver qualification safety training and compliance documentation.
Manage WEX Divvy and toll tag systems to ensure proper assignment and cost tracking.
Monitor and control operating expenses including maintenance insurance fuel and tolls.
Identify and eliminate waste unauthorized use and preventable damage.
Oversee Fairmatics and GeoTab integrations for telematics safety scoring and route optimization.
Vendor & Asset Management
Manage vendor relationships for vehicle leasing maintenance repairs and logistics (e.g. KingBee enterprise partners).
Negotiate fleet leases and purchase agreements to secure best value.
Develop dashboards and reporting in collaboration with Finance to track fleet health and ROI.
Coordinate decommissioning resale or reallocation of retired assets.
Leadership & Cross-Functional Collaboration
Lead the Fleet team fostering accountability clear communication and development.
Partner with Operations Managers to ensure vehicles meet daily field requirements.
Collaborate with Accounting HR and Safety to ensure fleet integrity and policy compliance.
Report regularly to the CFO on fleet performance cost trends and initiatives.
Qualifications
6 years in fleet management or operations leadership ideally in solar construction or field service industries.
Proven success managing fleets of 100 vehicles across multiple regions.
Strong understanding of DOT/FMCSA regulations fleet telematics and driver safety programs.
Proficient in software systems such as GeoTab Fairmatics WEX Divvy and NetSuite or similar ERP systems.
Skilled in data analysis budgeting and KPI development.
Excellent leadership communication and problem-solving skills.
Valid drivers license with a clean driving record.
Performance Metrics
Fleet uptime and vehicle availability.
Reduction in preventable maintenance and toll/traffic violations.
Compliance rate (inspections registrations clean-outs).
Total cost of ownership reduction year-over-year.
Driver safety and telematics performance improvements.
