About the Position

The ideal candidate will have a record that demonstrates excellent teaching potential with expertise in teaching topics for nurse anesthesia students. Additionally the ideal candidate should have a strong commitment to teaching and service and should thrive in a diverse and intellectually stimulating environment.

Duties:

1. Conduct didactic simulation and clinical teaching and academic/clinical advising of students in the doctoral nurse anesthesia program.

2. Contribute to the guidance of students scholarly projects within courses and to the development of curriculum and course activities (e.g. course coordination course evaluation materials simulation development).

3. Participate in program and course revisions.

a. Revise assigned courses to reflect program outcomes AACN Essentials COA state board of nursing minimum standards current evidence and best practice.

b. Collaborate with emphasis area coordinators clinical concentration coordinators program directors and the Associate and Assistant Deans to identify the types of clinical experiences and sites needed for optimal clinical education of students.

c. Teach graduate nursing courses in the Nurse Anesthesia Concentration and DNP Scholarly Project series.

d. Supervise nursing students as assigned.

e. Collaborate with clinical agencies in arranging student clinical experiences (e.g. orientation to objectives of clinical experience course syllabus clinical schedule et al) as appropriate.

f. Participate in the development of academic policies affecting the admission progression graduation and dismissal of students.

g. Participate in the evaluation and ongoing enhancement of the curricula.

h. Apply evidence from best education practices to curriculum development and to teaching.

4. Serve the College of Nursing University community and profession:

a. Participate in the growth and development of the nurse anesthesia program goal(s) and objectives as an active faculty member

b. Participate in community and academic service activities maintaining relationships with existing partners and assisting in the development of new clinical partners.

c. Participate in College of Nursing faculty standing committee task force and other meetings.

d. Participate in Faculty Senate Committees and ad hoc committees as elected.

e. Participate in community and professional activities as appropriate.

f. Participate in scholarly projects as appropriate.

5. Collaborate effectively with other faculty and staff members both within the College of Nursing and throughout the University and community to develop inter-professional academic clinical and scholarship opportunities.

a. Pursue and collaborate in scholarship and research activities and publish scholarly articles in peer-reviewed journals

6. Contribute to the mission and strategic priorities of the College of Nursing and the University of Tennessee Knoxville



Required Qualifications:

  • Earned doctorate (PhD or DNP) at time of appointment
  • National certification as a Nurse Anesthetist prior to employment recognition by the Tennessee Board of Nursing as an advanced practice registered nurse.
  • 3 years of nursing practice experience; Professional experience commensurate with rank
  • Evidence of successful classroom and/or clinical teaching experience.
  • Licensure as a registered nurse in Tennessee prior to employment.
  • Defined area of research/scholarly activity
  • Effective interpersonal skills and cultural competence.
  • Ability to work with a diverse group of students and colleagues.

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Eligibility for RN/APRN license in Tennessee
  • Experience with instructional media and technology

This position is open to those who qualify and can be appointed as one of the following ranks in the College of Nursing. Rank appointment is dependent on education and qualificationsrelativeto the university and college standards and will bedeterminedby academic leadershipin accordance withfaculty handbook policies and procedures.

Clinical Assistant Professor: This rank is for those who have completed a doctoral degree or terminal degree appropriate to the field or who are licensed or certified to practice the profession where appropriate. Individuals holding this rank have shown promise for excellence in areas of responsibility recorded in the hiring units annual documentation of the NTT facultys workload distribution and responsibilities.

Clinical Associate Professor: This rank is for those who have completed a doctoral degree or a terminal degree appropriate to the field and who are licensed or certified to practice the profession where appropriate. Individuals holding this rank have demonstrated excellence in areas of responsibility recorded in the hiring units annual documentation of the NTT facultys workload distribution and responsibilities.

Clinical Professor: This rank is for those who have completed a doctoral degree or a terminal degree appropriate to the field and who are licensed or certified to practice the profession where appropriate. Individuals holding this rank have demonstrated a consistent record of excellence in areas of responsibility recorded in the hiring units annual documentation of the NTT facultys workload distribution and responsibilities.
