The Philosophy Department of Wofford College invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor to begin September 1 2026. The successful applicant will be an excellent teacher with a clear research program who is committed to working in a liberal arts environment and who has demonstrated a commitment to inclusive pedagogy. AOS: Open. AOC: African/Africana Philosophy Arabic and Islamic Philosophy Asian Philosophy Caribbean Philosophy Latin American Philosophy Native American Philosophy or Indigenous Philosophy. The successful applicant will be able to teach introductory and advanced undergraduate courses in at least one of the aforementioned AOCs. The position also includes teaching an intermediate-level Metaphysics and Epistemology course which is a core requirement for the major in philosophy in alternate years. Ph.D. in philosophy required by September 2026.
The Philosophy Department has six full-time faculty members and is devoted to a broad pluralistic approach to the discipline. The department actively participates in the General Education curriculum and offers courses cross-listed in other departments and programs including Art History Asian Studies Gender Studies Environmental Studies and the Medicine and the Liberal Arts program.
Woffords academic year consists of two 13-week semesters and a 4-week January term in which faculty are encouraged to experiment with novel pedagogies. The standard teaching load is 3-1-3 (3-3 during the first year). Under current General Education requirements all students take at least one course in philosophy. Woffords curriculum weaves study of the liberal arts into high-impact practices such as study abroad living-learning communities internships civic engagement and student-faculty research.
