Director of Environmental Services provides service to the residents in the community that enable them to function at the highest possible level. This service includes: ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS PERFORMED IN THIS POSITION: - Supervise the day-to-day Environmental Services (EVS) functions of assigned personnel assure that the assigned work areas as maintained in a clean safe comfortable and attractive manner.
- Assist in supervising the day-to-day activities of the EVS Department in accordance with current Federal State and Local standards guidelines and regulations that govern retirement communities.
- Assist in standardizing the methods in which work is accomplished and assure that EVS personnel follow established safety precautions when performing tasks and when using equipment and supplies.
- Serve on various committees of the community (i.e. Infection Control Safety etc.) and provide written/oral reports of the EVS services and activities as required by the Committees guidelines for direction.
- Evaluate and implement recommendations from established committees (i.e. Infection Control Safety etc.)
- Meet with EVS personnel on a regularly scheduled basis and solicit advice from interdepartmental supervisors concerning the operation of the EVS Department assist in identifying and correcting problem areas and/or the improvement of services.
- Schedule EVS Department working hours (including vacation and holiday schedules) personnel work assignments cleaning schedules etc. to expedite work.
- Perform administrative requirements i.e. completing necessary forms reports etc. and submitting to Executive/Associate Director as necessary.
- Submit accident/incident reports to the Business Office within 24 hours after their occurrence.
- Attend department head meetings etc. as scheduled or as may be called.
- Schedule and announce departmental meeting times dates places etc.
- Assist in the recruitment interviewing and selection of EVS personnel.
- Determine departmental staffing requirements necessary to meet the EVS Departments needs and assign a sufficient number of EVS personnel for each shift.
- Train assigned personnel in the proper techniques of mixing chemicals cleaning disinfectants solutions cleaning methods use of equipment etc. as directed.
- Review job descriptions and duty assignments with new EVS Department personnel as directed or as necessary.
- Review complaints and grievances of department personnel and make oral/written recommendations and reports to Executive/Associate Director.
- Counsel/discipline assigned personnel as requested or as necessary. Report such actions to the Executive/Associate Director.
- Report daily absenteeism and tardiness to your supervisor.
- Meet with assigned personnel monthly to assist in identifying and correcting problem areas and/or the improvement of services.
- Review and evaluate the work performance of assigned personnel. Make recommendations to the Executive/Associate Director.
- Participate and assist in department studies and projects as directed.
- Report all hazardous conditions or equipment to the Executive/Associate Director.
- Assure that refuse is disposed of daily and in accordance with facility standards.
- Make sure that EVS personnel wear protective clothing/devices when performing tasks that involve the handling of infectious waste and/or blood/body fluids.
- Make periodic rounds to check equipment and to assure that necessary equipment is available and working properly.
- Maintain inventory and records according to established policies.
- Place orders for equipment and supplies as necessary or as may be required.
- Terminate EVS personnel when necessary documenting and coordinating such actions with the Human Resources Director and/or Administrator.
- Assist in preparing and planning the EVS Departments budget for equipment supplies and labor and submit to the administrator for review recommendations and approval.
- Coordinate housekeeping services and activities with other related departments (i.e. Dining Services Nursing etc.)
- Develop and maintain written job descriptions and performance evaluations for each level of EVS personnel.
- Review the EVS Departments policies procedure manuals job descriptions etc. at least annually for revisions and make recommendations to the Executive/Associate Director.
- Other duties as assigned by management.
JOB RELATED QUALIFICATIONS FOR THIS POSITION: - Minimum of 5 years Leadership experience in an Environmental Services Department or Hotel/Resort Housekeeping Department
- Must be able to read write speak and understand the English Language.
- Spanish Language skills a plus.
- Must have patience tact cheerful disposition and enthusiasm as well as be willing to handle residents based on the maturity level at which they are currently functioning.
- Possess the ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action.
- Ability to tactfully deal with personnel residents family members visitors government agencies/personnel and the general public.
- Minimum of 21 years old
- Evidence of a negative TB skin test within the past 12 months or its equivalent.
- Knowledge of housekeeping practices and procedures as well as the laws regulations and guidelines governing housekeeping functions in retirement/long term care community.
