Job Description
The Sahoo Lab is seeking a Research Scientist to help develop and lead our research program focused on the genetic and functional mechanisms driving bone marrow failure clonal hematopoiesis and progression to MDS/AML. The Research Scientist will have the opportunity to pursue an independent project while also contributing to collaborative efforts across the group including mentoring and training junior scientists.
Our lab uses patient-derived samples iPSC models CRISPR-based genome editing single-cell multi-omics and mouse disease models to uncover how germline and acquired genetic changes including mutations and chromosomal aneuploidy shape hematopoietic stem cell fate and leukemogenesis.
Available projects include:
1. Germline predisposition to MDS/AML: Defining the mechanisms by which germline SAMD9L mutations cause hematopoietic failure and predispose to leukemogenesis.
2. Chromosome 7 aneuploidy syndromes: Modeling monosomy 7associated bone marrow failure and understanding its contribution to clonal selection.
3. Clonal evolution and therapeutic vulnerabilities: Using single-cell sequencing platforms to track clonal evolution and identify novel therapeutic targets in high-risk MDS/AML.
The Research Scientist will have access to Virginia Tech and Childrens National Hospital resources core facilities and seminars and will be provided strong opportunities for career growth and development. Our team actively supports diverse career trajectories and encourages leadership training networking conference participation and skill development. This is an exciting opportunity to play a foundational role in shaping a new lab at the Research and Innovation Campus in Washington DC.
