The University of Alberta Students Union (UASU) is looking for passionate students to join the Vice President Academics Artificial Intelligence Task Force (AITF). The task force will act as a consultative body to the Vice president Academics advocacy around artificial intelligence for the 2025-2026 academic year. They are also tasked with creating a list of advocacy priorities for students on Artificial Intelligence in their learning and university experience.
The purpose of the AITF is to engage students in the conversation around Artificial Intelligence (AI) within the University of Alberta its use in the classroom and beyond. As AI rapidly evolves and becomes commonplace it is vital that there are informed proactive and responsive guidelines in place to ensure responsible sustainable and ethical use of this technology. The AITF is a space in which student priorities are consulted with and a greater model for advocacy is planned.
The UASU is looking for up to six (6) Students-at-Large who will sit on the Artificial Intelligence Task Force. For more information on the specific duties please contact the Vice President Academic Katie Tamsett at .
General Duties and Responsibilities
- Regularly attend meetings of the AITF
- Engage with constituents and interest-holders;
- Educate themselves about AI and concerns in relation to its implementation in learning and impact on students;
- Complete any assignments given by the Task Force to an individual member or members including but not limited to researching a specific topic or engaging with a particular set of interest-holders;
- Advise the VPA and provide perspective on advocacy efforts;
Task Force Meetings and Time Commitment
This committee will meet approximately once or twice a month. The meeting schedule is subject to change based on the availability of committee members. Committee members are expected to attend as many meetings as possible and carefully review all meeting materials in advance so they can make informed decisions.
Qualifications
- Must be registered as an undergraduate student at the University of Alberta for the 2025-26 academic year.
- Must have an interest in Artificial Intelligence student matters at the University of Alberta and a desire to represent the best interests of students to the Students Union.
- Preference will be given to students who are executives of student groups so further engagement can take place.
