Position Summary:
With constant supervision operates hand grinding machine that shape steel forged bars or parts and removes defects and scale by performing the following duties.
Primary Duties & Responsibilities:
- Carries out leadman duties as directed by the Conditioning Supervisor.
- Inspects products to verify conformance to specifications and directs setup and adjustments of machines.
- Studies production schedules and estimates worker hour requirements for completion of job assignment.
- Trains employees in the safety and departmental procedures set forth in the Shultz Steel Company manuals.
- Inspects equipment and coordinates the equipment maintenance with the Maintenance Department in order to maintain schedules.
- Oversees part identification throughout the Conditioning Department.
Required Skills:
- Ability to read a limited number of two- and three-syllable words and to recognize similarities and differences between words and between series of numbers.
- Ability to print and speak simple sentences.
- Ability to add and subtract two-digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10s and 100s. Ability to perform these operations using units of weight measurement volume and distance.
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.
- Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
Experience & Education
- Less than high school education; or up to one-year related experience or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
