ABOUT INUVIALUIT REGIONAL CORPORATION (IRC)
IRC was created in 1984 to represent the Inuvialuit and their rights and benefits obtained under one of Canadas oldest comprehensive land claim agreements. With assets over $1 billion not including vast land holdings IRC is responsible for corporate investment land management and a broad range of social cultural and economic programs and services benefiting Inuvialuit. Its subsidiaries have interests in grocery manufacturing property management transportation and significant dealings in the oil and gas industry.
Since its inception IRC has experienced considerable growth and its structure and operations have become increasingly complex. Combining local government and service delivery community development investment and operating business divisions all managed by a single back office the organization has an array of complexities for the executive staff to navigate. There is an emphasis on fostering understanding healing and resilience in a region brimming with unique social challenges and immense potential for transformative change.
JOB SUMMARY
Under the direction and guidance of the Environmental Programs and Policy Manager the Marine Program Coordinator will be responsible for coordinating a wide array of marine research activities taking place in the Inuvialuit Settlement Region (ISR). They will develop and maintain cooperative relationships between Inuvialuit Regional Corporation (IRC) Inuvialuit communities Inuit Circumpolar Council-Canada academia and the territorial and federal governments in support of IRCs marine priorities. The position will also support IRCs participation in Qanittaqs governance structure and related marine committees.
The Marine Program Coordinator will work with senior IRC staff to assist with various task related to the implementation of the Western Arctic Tariuq Accord and the work of the Western Arctic Offshore Moratorium Review Committee. These tasks will include reviewing draft analyses prepared by external consultants assisting in the coordination of senior official and working group meetings learning about and supporting the administration and regulation of natural resource rights in the offshore and other related items. Opportunities for learning exchanges may be possible subject to funding and capacity.
The Marine Program Coordinator will also be knowledgeable about emerging marine science initiatives and support programming and marine research priorities. They will work together with IRCs Marine Programs Coordinator to evaluate gaps in existing marine research programming monitoring and datasets to improve the overall well-being of Inuvialuit and strengthen marine knowledge to better prepare for future resource management initiatives. They will also work closely with IRCs Marine Policy Advisor to integrate research findings from Qanittaq projects into future IRC marine policies.
QUALIFICATIONS
Applicants must be/have:
- Masters degree in social studies Northern Studies or equivalent.
- Minimum 3 years of related work experience.
Preference may be given to candidates with the following:
- Experience working with Indigenous communities and organizations.
- Familiarity with marine activities and the Inuvialuit Settlement Region (ISR).
- Knowledge of the Inuvialuit Final Agreement (IFA) and related management structures.
- Strong communication and project management skills.
