The Burlington Public Library is accepting applications for a part-time Library Assistant focused on events and services for adults. Tasks would include planning and conducting library programs and events staffing the library service desk doing library outreach in the community and providing general assistance throughout the library. Position also serves on library system committees as assigned.
Burlington Public Library is located in southeastern Wisconsin with a municipal population of 10980 and a service population of 19500. We are a member of the SHARE Library Consortium serving Racine Walworth Kenosha and Rock Counties.
Qualifications:High School Diploma/GED required; computer and electronic resource experience required; customer service experience preferred; experience in libraries desired; Bachelors degree or substantial college coursework desired.
Compensation: Starting wage is $17.02 per hour.
Hours:This position is typically 15-20 hours per week including regular evening and weekend hours with some flexibility.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provides prompt and courteous phone and in-person service to library patrons and assists patrons with computer usage at the library.
- Plans and conducts library programs and events to educate entertain and inform the community both in the library and out in the community.
- Provides in-depth reference and readers advisory service to library patrons.
- Provides instruction in the use of library materials and services to library patrons.
- Compiles statistical information regarding reference services and public events.
- Works collaboratively with library staff to support operations and further the librarys mission to connect all community members with access to diverse resources engaging experiences and the opportunity to grow.
- Serves on library system committees as assigned.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
DESIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education and Experience:
- Bachelors degree.
- Some public library experience in a public-contact position is desirable.
Necessary Knowledge Skills and Abilities:
- Working knowledge of authors books and reader-interest levels.
- Ability to keep accurate records and accurately follow procedures.
- Ability to understand library polices and procedures and apply them to library operations.
- Ability to communicate positively and effectively with the staff and the public.
- Ability to use and explain computers and mobile devices.
- Willingness to maintain skills above areas through active participation in continuing education.
- Excellent level of English oral and written skills.
