ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY

The City Open Spaces team manages the daily presentation and maintenance of Councils open spaces sportsgrounds playgrounds passive and public spaces golf courses botanical gardens and native vegetation areas within the Cumberland City Area ensuring that our residents and visitors have access to quality and attractive open spaces of which they can be proud and enjoy.

The Team Leader will lead a small team in undertaking a range of activities that deliver the overall maintenance of Councils Open Team Leaderwill assist in ensuring customer and community satisfaction with Councils Open Spaces are met by presenting and servicing our facilities in accordance with service specifications and will ensure individual Work Health and Safety responsibilities under Council policy and legislation are met at all times and at all levels within the team to ensure a safe place of work.

The successful applicant will require:

  • Relevant trade qualifications e.g. Certificate III in Turf Management Parks and Gardens Horticulture and/or extensive experience in a related field
  • Current MR drivers licence
  • Current ChemCert (chemical handling) qualification
  • Current General Induction for Construction Work in NSW (White Card)
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of park maintenance and parks infrastructure related issues current trends industry best-practice and new developments relating to maintenance services and parks operations
  • Ability to plan coordinate resources and undertake maintenance activities relevant to the position including but not limited to mowing edging gardening weeding and chemical spraying
  • Ability to identify plan coordinate resources and undertake improvement works throughoutCouncils open spaces
  • Demonstrated experience in operating parks maintenance related small plant and equipmentincluding small hand tools and power tools
  • Proven ability to effectively supervise and co-ordinate team members and external contractorsin the delivery of maintenance and project works
  • Demonstrated ability to deal in a positive and courteous manner with the public and councilstaff whilst providing leadership to others
  • Sound verbal and written communication skills ability to complete necessary paperwork andcommunicate effectively with team members
  • Sound knowledge and practical application of WH&S principles and the Work Health and Safety legislation
  • Sound Computer Skills and aptitude to adapt and learn new electronic systems and operate arange of devices including iPads
  • Playground Inspection Level 1 - AHCPGD206 (Routine) (or willingness to obtain)
  • Current Senior First Aid certificate

About this role:

  • Permanent full-time position
  • 70 hour fortnight
  • Access to Councils 9 day fortnight Rostered Day Off (RDO) arrangement
  • Located at Councils Guildford Depot with frequent travel required across Council worksites and may be required to work across any of Councils work locations

Salary information: The salary and conditions of employment are in accordance with the NSW Local Government (State) Award.

  • Grade 7 of the Cumberland Salary Structure with a salary range of $1295.25 to $1586.68 per week plus 12% superannuation
  • The commencing salary will be negotiated taking into consideration the successful applicants qualifications skills and experience related to the role

What youll need to have for this role:

  • The right to live and work in Australia
  • Be able to provide information for pre-employment checks required for the position including attending a physical pre-employment medical examination as required
  • Participate in health monitoring as outlined in the risk assessment for this position and Councils Health Monitoring Procedure as required
  • Provide evidence of your vaccination status as part of the employment screening process in accordance with Councils COVID-19 Vaccination Procedure.
