Job Summary

SUMMARY: Assists in the operation of large capacity vacuum furnaces used in the production of vacuum melted master metal; prepares ingot molds assists bricking furnace lining; strips pushes crops and blast or grinds ingots; breaks and grinds ends of charges; assists in changing coil assembly; receives revert into MMIT system; familiarizes self with the operation of the vacuum furnace and related equipment; receives instructions from the master metal supervisor.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES: Include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Assists in the operation of the vacuum furnace by helping to charge and pour metal alloys and taking and identifying heat samples. Occasionally performs any and all duties required in the actual operation of the vacuum furnace.
  • Prepares all types of molds used in ingot production; places ingot molds on dolly for loading into the vacuum furnace; preheats ingot molds and moves ingot molds into the vacuum furnace. Removes ingot molds from vacuum furnace strips ingot mold tundishes.
  • Assists operators in changing of coil assembly skulling and patching of furnace lining.
  • Identifies sorts weighs and labels processed alloy and revert. Assists in maintaining revert and bar inventory.
  • Identifies and maintains accurate records on the makeup of master heats.
  • Sets up and operates pusher and saw to crop ends and stencils identification of ingot by master metal heat number.
  • Sets up and operates break press to break ingots to appropriate size and weight. Uses scale to verify weight.
  • Grinds broken charge points and chamfers edge.
  • Performs alloy type test and stickers charge per break and cut card.
  • Uses a variety of hand tools such as grinders chisels wrenches metabo etc. to accomplish the miscellaneous duties of servicing and operation various machines.
  • Stencils materials identification as specified.
  • Uses overhead crane hoists fork lift and other devices to handle or move metal.
  • Changes abrasive wheels and other consumable products as required.
  • Adds media to ingot blaster units.
  • Keeps working area clean and orderly.
  • Perform other duties as prescribed by the Master Metal Supervisor.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITES:

This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

QUALIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Employee must be able to obtain forlklift license and safely operate the machine regularly. The requirements listed are representative of the knowledge skill and/or ability required. EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

High school diploma or general education degree (GED); plus one to three years related experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience.

OTHER QUALIFICATION:

Regular attendance and the ability to work weekday and weekend overtime.

The employee must frequently lift and/or move 10 to 35 pounds. Lifting above 35 pounds will require the use of lift assist or help. Specific vision abilities required by this job include ability to adjust focus.

While performing the duties of this job the employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts. The employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles outside weather conditions and risk of vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
