Day - 8 Hour (United States of America)I. Position Summary:
Schedules appointments for Houston Surgical Associates. Completes initial patient contact for scheduling procedures and surgical intervention. Works closely with the physicians of Houston Surgical Associates to verify information-all CPT codes and Diagnosis codes assigned by physicians. Initiates and tracks all insurance pre-authorization/certification. Assigns appropriate admission status post procedure. Completes all forms necessary to schedule surgery. Communicates closely with HHC OR and HASC to coordinate surgical intervention. Schedules post operative care and follow up visits. Scans all surgical documents and surgical consents to patients charts and faxes information via EMR to OR staffing. Answers telephone inquiries related to scheduling and/or insurance relating to surgical procedure. Resolves scheduling conflicts as needed. Documents all information regarding surgical scheduling process and any patient post-operative visit re-schedules. Ensures records are submitted to physicians in a timely manner. Obtains Operative Reports and attaches to ECW charts before patients post operative appointment. Closes Operative encounters on a weekly basis. Confirms insurance eligibility and balance owed to the practice. Responsible for contacting the patient and notifying the patient of balance owed to HSA after insurance pays. Notifies patient that balance must paid 48 hours prior to the date of the surgery. Responsible for collecting balances for surgeries. May perform any office duties as required.
II. Qualifications:
A. Education & Training:
High School diploma or GED equivalent.
B. Experience:
Two (2) years in physician office or related hospital experience.
C. Required Certification/Registration/Licensure:
None.
D. Knowledge Skills & Abilities:
Knowledge of medical terminology. Ability to maintain quality safety and/or infection control standards. Knowledge of planning and scheduling techniques. Knowledge of medical billing procedures. Word processing and/or data entry skills. Knowledge of related accreditation and certification requirements. Receptionist skills. Skill in preparing and maintaining patient records. Ability to develop and maintain filing systems. Ability to interact and communicate with people in person and over the telephone often in stressful situations. Knowledge of the nature and provisions of alternate health insurance plans. Knowledge of pre-certification requirements procedures and documentation of third-party medical insurance payers. Knowledge of Medicare Inpatient Only list and admission statuses post-surgical intervention.
