The purpose of this position is to design fabricate repair and perform welding and preventive maintenance on building systems for detention commercial and industrial facilities.

As the landlord for all facilities owned by Maricopa County the Facilities Management Department is responsible for the planning design construction maintenance and operations of more than 200 facilities comprised of over 10 million square feet. Facilities Management is made up of a collaborative team that provides and performs various functions to meet the facility-related needs of all Maricopa County Departments. Our broad range of services includes various aspects of the ongoing operations and maintenance of all County-owned facilities management of all facility projects and in-house design services.

We Require
Three years of journeyman-level trades experience
High school diploma or GED
Must complete a Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA) background investigation to access County detention facilities
Must possess or have the ability to obtain a valid Arizona drivers license by the time of hire and have an acceptable driving record
We Also Value
Five years of building-related welding work experience
Job Contributions
Build security fences and construct handrails including those that meet ADA standards. Repair and maintain overhead doors motorized and manual gates and dock levelers
Repair fabricate and secure vandalized equipment and structures which include but are not limited to: brackets hinges and welded pipe doors door jambs trap doors walls and steel furniture
Design build and construct security cages equipment rooms and tool rooms; assist HVAC Technicians with duct repair
Design build and install ladder systems assist devices for unsafe doors entry systems for the Sheriffs ladder rack and lock systems
Repair electric and manual controls in the jail
Fabricate steel door frames and lock housings; install both manual and electric locks
Make and install prison-type doors steel ladders steps and railings
Adjust micro roller switches motor cut-off switches and other such devices
Work and form sheet metal to specifications
Operate the barcode reader for time management and input parts from the inventory into Maximo
Other job duties as assigned
Working Conditions
Exerting 50 - 100 pounds occasionally 10 - 25 pounds frequently or up to 10 - 20 pounds constantly
Requires bending climbing stooping kneeling and crawling indoors and outdoors
Incumbent may be subjected to extreme temperatures wetness/humidity respiratory hazards and noise and vibration
Incumbent may be subjected to moving mechanical parts vibrations fumes odors dusts poor ventilation chemicals oils extreme temperatures inadequate lighting workspace restrictions intense noises and travel
The work will occur in an office and field environment. While performing the duties and responsibilities the employee may be exposed to loud noise noxious odors unsanitary conditions chemicals electricity moving mechanical parts varying weather conditions and other related conditions and situations. Position is subject to atmospheric conditions: Fumes odors dust mists gases or poor ventilation
This position may require a rotating on-call/standby schedule including nights weekends and holidays
Special working environments include but are not limited to adult and juvenile detention facilities medical facilities (both detention and public health) forensics courts and related justice facilities
