About the role

Our team are looking for a UK insight analyst with a passion for market research and retail.

Youll be inquisitive have an interest in retail especially FMCG and want to be an important part of a dynamic and progressive environment engaging with customers in a rapidly changing agile retailing world. Youll be looking for the opportunity to develop your voice and share thoughts that help our customers grow.

This role sits within our Shopper & Away from Home insights team specifically working with our shopper research. The role will have you driving insights and foresights from our long-term shopper tracking study (ShopperVista) as well as adhoc research projects. Through this you will build and share your knowledge of the UK food and consumer goods retailing market.

From our unparalleled industry relationships and access you will build your network with retailers and suppliers seeing and understanding first-hand what affects them. The insight analyst role will also work alongside our retail consumer and eating-out analysts within the wider team with the opportunity to collaborate across projects.


The responsibilities

Reporting to the Shopper Insight Manager your responsibilities will include:


Producing best-in-class insight

  • You will support & build insights from primary and secondary research and utilise our Retail Analysis team and network of industry contacts.
  • You will deliver outputs on a variety of shopper trends and industry/macro developments across the UK providing actionable insight to our members through presentations and on IGDs ShopperVista web-based platform.
  • You may be required to travel around the UK in order to fulfil your research/projects.
  • Youll support the creation of news articles and track best practice and innovations on the latest retail developments incorporating your research into IGD reports and presentations.


Supporting our primary research

  • Youll be supporting our qualitative and quantitative primary research with British Shoppers through our ongoing tracking study and through various projects we undertake on an ad hoc basis.
  • Working with the wider team you will deliver high-quality reports for our customers to showcase our work and to raise awareness and build the reputation of our UK research programme. The projects you lead will generally be focused on specific topics (utilising qualitative and quantitative research methodologies) and you will support Insight Leaders and Senior analysts on the larger strategic projects.
  • You will also be supporting on customer-specific projects providing insights that exceed their expectations in terms of quality and depth of insight. You will have the opportunity to demonstrate your knowledge sharing your research with customers in the form of virtual or in-person presentations and webinars.


Focus on personal development

  • You will support IGDs research programme and your own personal development journey. By actively developing an internal & external network and using feedback from colleagues and customers youll be able to continually improve IGD online content and the quality of our insights and research. Your line manager will support you in your short/long-term personal development goals and help identify and provide training.
  • You will keep up to date with industry trends in order to develop your personal skills and knowledge base and be proactive about self-development.


What you bring

Essential

  • A keen interest in the UK grocery and consumer goods industry
  • PowerPoint Excel and Word skills with the ability to turn multiple sources of information into meaningful insights and reporting
  • Confident presentation skills able to engage an audience
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • The ability to plan and manage your own workload
  • A team player with a collaborative mindset who takes pride in maintaining high standards in your own work and meeting deadlines
  • Capable of adapting priorities under pressure with a positive approach to change
  • A curiosity for learning and sharing your knowledge with an ability to think creatively and to innovate with an ethos of continuous improvement and constantly pushing the boundaries e.g. how AI can step change our research and reporting



Desirable

  • Knowledge and experience of the UK grocery and consumer goods industry
  • An understanding and experience of using different qualitative and quantitative research methodologies
  • Advanced Excel skills and experience working with large data sets
