About the Role:
Reporting to the CFO the Controller will serve as a key strategic partner in managing all aspects of accounting and financial reporting. Youll oversee a talented team of 3 accounting professionals ensuring accuracy compliance and operational efficiency across all financial functions. This position offers a hybrid work schedule allowing for flexibility while maintaining strong collaboration with leadership and colleagues.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee accounting operations including general ledger management financial reporting payroll budgeting accounts payable/receivable and tax compliance.
- Develop implement and maintain accounting policies procedures and internal controls.
- Manage cash flow and investment balances and prepare accurate forecasts and financial analyses.
- Lead month-end and year-end closing processes and ensure compliance with GAAP and all relevant regulations.
- Direct the proper recording and reporting of grants and restricted funds in accordance with nonprofit accounting standards.
- Collaborate with the CFO and executive team on strategic financial planning and decision-making.
- Supervise mentor and develop accounting team members to support professional growth and strong performance.
- Oversee annual audit preparation and coordinate with external auditors.
Qualifications
- Bachelors degree in Accounting Finance or Business Administration required.
- 57 years of progressive nonprofit accounting experience including prior experience as a Controller.
- CPA preferred (or CMA).
- Deep understanding of fund accounting and management of restricted funds.
- Proficiency with accounting softwareMIP Fund Accounting experience preferred but not required.
- Strong analytical organizational and communication skills.
- Commitment to advancing educational equity and excellence.
