Job Summary
Provides training and guidance to Archdiocese of Detroit parishes Families of Parishes (FOPs) and schools on financial and administrative policies procedures tax and employment regulations. Provides input/updates to other Central Services departments and Department of Finance and Administration offices regarding the financial status of archdiocesan parishes FOPs and schools.
Duties/Responsibilities Aid parish FOP and school staff as well as Parish Finance Councils (PFCs) in their understanding and proper implementation of appropriate financial and administrative policies procedures and governmental regulations including budget preparation and reporting financial reporting payroll internal controls benefit administration and other related parish FOP and school business operations.
Develop training materials and provide training to PFCs pastors moderators priest in solidum principals business managers mission support directors accountants and bookkeepers to educate/inform them on proper accounting practices tax and employment regulations and Archdiocese of Detroit financial and administrative policies and procedures.
Work as an advocate of parishes FOPs and schools on unresolved issues with Central Services staff Michigan Catholic Conference and Paycor.
Provide implementation training and full support for archdiocesan-approved accounting systems.
Assist in preparing communications to parishes FOPs and schools regarding financial and administrative information.
Work in conjunction with other Central Services departments and Department of Finance and Administration offices to assist parishes FOPs and schools in implementing archdiocesan initiatives having a financial/administrative impact.
Perform financial reviews of parishes FOPs and schools to determine financial status operational deficiencies and non-compliance with policies and/or governmental regulations. Provide recommendations and training to aid in remedying deficiencies and/or improving operations.
Provide guidance to parishes FOPs and schools in the development of debt repayment plans and monitor their compliance.
Assist the Regional Moderator as needed and provide updates on the financial status of parishes FOPs and schools in the region.
Provide financial information and analysis for parish FOP and school meetings and for other Central Services staff upon request.
Assist parishes FOPs and schools with financial and administrative tasks related to mergers.
Required Knowledge/Skills/Abilities Good oral and written communication skills.
Strong MS Office Suite (Word Excel and PowerPoint) financial accounting software and computer skills and experience with Microsoft Teams.
Experience with Sage Intacct a plus.
Strong organizational skills with the ability to work independently and handle multiple projects at the same time while paying attention to details.
Strong ability to work collaboratively and strategically with various staff and stakeholders.
Strong financial analysis organizational problem-solving and decision-making skills.
Strong ability to facilitate and navigate difficult situations.
Education and Experience Requirements Bachelors degree in Accounting or related field with Accounting minor required.
Minimum 3 years accounting experience required.
Advanced certification such as CPA is a plus.
Physical Requirements
Prolonged sitting and working at a desk with repetitive motion working on a computer.
Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at a time.
May involve some standing bending and walking.
Travel Required Must have reliable transportation and ability to travel throughout the Archdiocese of Detroit.
Additional Requirements Must agree upon acceptance of an offer of employment with the Archdiocese of Detroit not to engage in nor to endorse any actions or beliefs contrary to the teaching and standards of the Roman Catholic faith and morality.
Must maintain strict confidentiality regarding any archdiocesan information gained within the Archdiocese of Detroit especially highly sensitive material such as protected Personally Identifiable Information and financial information.
Must have a valid drivers license and safe driving record.
