Position Summary: The Clinical Nurse in Labor & Delivery provides safe competent and compassionate nursing care to pregnant and laboring patients and their families. Using a relationship-centered care approach the nurse assesses plans implements and evaluates care based on nursing theory research and evidence-based protocols. The RN collaborates with interdisciplinary teams to support positive patient outcomes in a complex and dynamic perinatal environment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities Patient Care Deliver patient-centered care incorporating professional nursing standards and evidence-based practice.
Assess and evaluate patient needs applying critical thinking in nursing management.
Administer medications including magnesium sulfate and manage maternal-fetal monitoring.
Provide care in labor delivery postpartum and float within competencies including postpartum unit as required.
Educate patients and families on care plans health promotion and disease prevention.
Communicate effectively with patients families and interdisciplinary teams.
Patient Experience Role model relationship-centered care behaviors including bedside reporting purposeful rounding and service recovery.
Respect patient diversity and preferences fostering therapeutic relationships.
Quality and Safety Practice safe high-quality nursing care and contribute to quality improvement initiatives.
Identify safety hazards and escalate issues per institutional protocols.
Document nursing care accurately to support quality and compliance.
Operations Perform charge nurse duties as assigned.
Collaborate in resource management and patient throughput.
Ensure documentation compliance with legal and regulatory standards.
Professional Development Promote a supportive environment for clinical colleagues and patients.
Pursue continuous nursing education and participate in shared decision-making.
Required Qualifications Experience: Minimum 2 years Labor & Delivery experience.
Education: Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required.
Licensure & Certifications Current NYS RN License
Basic Life Support (BLS)
Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP)
Skills Magnesium sulfate administration experience required.
Floating within Labor & Delivery competency and postpartum unit flexibility required.
Preferred Experience: EPIC electronic health record system experience highly preferred.
