Psychology Internships 2026 Health NZ Southern

Three yearlong 0.8 fte internships:

  • Internship 1: Invercargill Child And Adolescent Mental Health Service
  • Internship 2: Adult Forensic Service and Dunedin Child and Family service two days per week each
  • Internship 3: Older Persons Health (6 months) Pain Service (6 months)

About the Role

Under the guidance of their supervisor to provide high quality clinical psychology service in the assessment and treatment of clients ensuring clients needs are met in a culturally clinically and legally safe manner. The Intern Psychologist functions as part of a multidisciplinary team.

Clinical psychology is a discipline integrating science theory and clinical knowledge for the purpose of understanding preventing and relieving psychologically-based distress or dysfunction and to promote subjective wellbeing and personal development. Psychologists assess and treat mental emotional and behavioural disorders. They use the science of psychology to treat complex human problems and promote change. They develop an individuals resilience using strengths-based models.

About you

  • Minimum of a bachelors degree in psychology or equivalent*
  • Currently registered as part of Doctoral or Masters level vocational training in psychology
  • Registration with NZ Psychologist Board with Intern Psychologist Scope of Practice
  • Current annual practising certificate.
  • Understanding of mental health in infants children adolescents adults and their families
  • Effective oral and written communication
  • Working in a multi-disciplinary environment
  • Can use Microsoft Office suite (Word and Excel)
  • Can keep detailed written file notes complete client pathway documentation and provide formal assessment reports as required.
