The Orange Coast College Art Department offers students courses in nearly every art form imaginable. Programs span traditional 2D disciplines such as drawing and painting entertainment art including digital painting and character design and 3D design with ceramics and sculpture.
The Ceramics and 3D Design programs occupy more than 10000 square feet of dedicated classroom and studio space. Facilities also include a fully equipped woodshop a welding and steel fabrication studio casting facilities a glazing workroom and a damp room. The program further supports instruction and prolific student art production through the management of raw materials and the operation of 11 gas kilns and 3 electric kilns. These resources enable the delivery of multi-level coursework across multiple mediums that emphasizes technical proficiency conceptual development and innovative practice.

Qualifications
Knowledge and Skills
1. In-depth knowledge of ceramic development processes ceramic laboratory maintenance and firing of gas and electric kilns.
2. Advanced technical skills in ceramics related to maintaining of equipment and facilities.
3. Skilled in repair of many pieces of equipment used in art practice including 3D Design and Sculpture.
4. Basic knowledge of tutorial and instructional techniques.
5. Requires awareness of the difficulties students may face in understandings of course content learning styles adaptive technologies computer-aided and on-line support.
6. Working knowledge of ceramics and foundational art courses.
7. Requires a well-developed knowledge of computer-aided instructional techniques and general-purpose learning applications.
8. Requires working knowledge of computer operating systems used by the College.
9. Requires knowledge of and skill at using the web-based access and conducting research.
10. Sufficient math skill to read summarize and record detailed numbers and measurements.
11. Knowledge of safety procedures in an art studio production setting and safe use of equipment.
12. Requires knowledge of and skill in using proper English grammar vocabulary syntax spelling and punctuation.
13. Requires adequate human relations skills to convey technical concepts to others and to facilitate a small group learning process.
14. Requires a basic knowledge of standard and common office clerical practices.

Education and Experience
The position requires
an Associates degree with adequate concentration (12 lower division units) in Ceramics or related area;
or a High School diploma and four years of industry experience in the above areas;
or a High School diploma plus 12 lower division units in ceramics or related area and two years of industry experience.
Also requires at least 2 years of professional experience in ceramics and foundational arts.
Or any combination of experience which would provide the required equivalent qualifications for the position.
A Bachelors degree with adequate concentration (12 lower division units) in ceramics or related area is preferred and may substitute for experience.

Demonstrated evidence of responsiveness to and understanding of the racial ethnic disability gender identity sexual orientation socioeconomic academic and cultural diversity within the community college student population including students with different ability statuses (e.g. physical and/or learning) as these factors relate to the need for equity-minded practice within the classroom.

This is an IN-HOUSE ONLY - permanent general funded full-time 40 hour per week 10-months per year classified position. The normal hours of work will be Monday through Friday 8:00 am to 5:00 pm with the flexibility to occasionally work extended hours and/or weekends if necessary to meet the departments needs. The effective date of employment will be arranged with the supervisor. The District provides medical dental and vision insurance for the employee and eligible dependents and life insurance for the employee. (Salary Schedule: E0-115)

Pay Philosophy:
