Software Engineer Intern Medical Informatics (Summer 2026)
Location: San Diego CA (U.S.)
Department: Medical Informatics Software Engineering

Essential Duties

  • Collaborate with software engineers data scientists and clinical experts to develop and test software tools that support medical informatics initiatives.

  • Assist in the design implementation and validation of software components and data pipelines.

  • Participate in code reviews sprint planning and team meetings.

  • Document code workflows and technical decisions clearly and concisely.

  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of development processes and tools.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Current undergraduate or graduate student in Computer Science Software Engineering Biomedical Informatics or a related field.

  • Basic experience in software development preferably in healthcare or life sciences.

  • Familiarity with programming languages such as Python Java or C#.

  • Exposure to cloud platforms (e.g. AWS Azure or GCP) and CI/CD pipelines.

  • Understanding of RESTful APIs and microservices architecture.

  • Familiarity with relational databases (e.g. PostgreSQL MySQL) and data modeling.

  • Knowledge of software development best practices including Agile methodologies and design patterns.

  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work collaboratively in cross- functional teams.

  • Ability to communicate results clearly and work effectively in a team setting.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Exposure to AI/ML applications.

  • Experience with version control tools such as Git/GitHub.

  • Contributions to open-source projects or scientific publications in medical informatics.

  • Familiarity with data privacy and security standards (e.g. HIPAA GDPR).

Salary Range:

$40250.00 - $64400.00

The annual base salary shown is for this position located in US - CA - San Diego on a full-time basis.
