Software Engineer Intern Medical Informatics (Summer 2026)
Location: San Diego CA (U.S.)
Department: Medical Informatics Software Engineering

Essential Duties

Collaborate with software engineers data scientists and clinical experts to develop and test software tools that support medical informatics initiatives.
Assist in the design implementation and validation of software components and data pipelines.
Participate in code reviews sprint planning and team meetings.
Document code workflows and technical decisions clearly and concisely.
Contribute to the continuous improvement of development processes and tools.

Minimum Qualifications

Current undergraduate or graduate student in Computer Science Software Engineering Biomedical Informatics or a related field.
Basic experience in software development preferably in healthcare or life sciences.
Familiarity with programming languages such as Python Java or C#.
Exposure to cloud platforms (e.g. AWS Azure or GCP) and CI/CD pipelines.
Understanding of RESTful APIs and microservices architecture.
Familiarity with relational databases (e.g. PostgreSQL MySQL) and data modeling.
Knowledge of software development best practices including Agile methodologies and design patterns.
Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work collaboratively in cross- functional teams.
Ability to communicate results clearly and work effectively in a team setting.

Preferred Qualifications

Exposure to AI/ML applications.
Experience with version control tools such as Git/GitHub.
Contributions to open-source projects or scientific publications in medical informatics.
Familiarity with data privacy and security standards (e.g. HIPAA GDPR).

Salary Range:

$40250.00 - $64400.00

The annual base salary shown is for this position located in US - CA - San Diego on a full-time basis.
