Campus Location: Walters State Community College - Morristown Campus (Employees are assigned to a home location but may occasionally or regularly be required to work at other WSCC locations.)

Job Purpose:The purpose of this position is to monitor all requests for external funding of programs or research by faculty or staff to evaluate grant opportunities from public or private funding agencies for appropriateness for WSCC (institutional readiness ROI and internal resources) ensure accuracy and quality of proposal submissions and monitor funded projects for compliance with the requirements of the funding entity and integrity in accounting and auditing.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Assists staff and faculty with grant requests assembles grant teams if needed assigns tasks to people for completion of proposals drafts and edits narrative develops budgets in accordance with Business & Finance procedures communicates with team and/or project director on submission deadlines grantor requirements appropriate data collection and reporting deadlines. Maintains a detailed calendar with deadlines and other information that is integral to each grant opportunity.
  • Researches various search engines and websites for funding notifications or requests-for-proposals (RFP) from government agencies corporations and/or private and community foundations.
  • Reviews WSCC grant procedures and policies to ensure clear easy-to-follow directions and current accurate information for faculty and staff in seeking and applying for external funding ensures that policies and procedures are followed and all grants applied for and awarded are appropriately managed to ensure proper financial accounting and stewardship of funds.
  • Communicates results of grant submissions whether denied or approved for funding to project directors deans and administration. Maintains open communication with other departments especially WSCC Foundation to complement and support the colleges fundraising plans.
  • Notifies appropriate faculty and staff of funding opportunities and assesses requests from faculty and staff for grant funding for appropriateness of a program or funding agency in alignment with WSCCs priorities and resources. Guides interested grant seekers through WSCCs grant procedures and policies.
  • May perform other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

  • A bachelors degree in non-profit management public administration communications journalism or related field.
  • Five years of related career experience
  • Excellent writing research and organizational skills
  • Ability to multitask and present in a public forum

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior experience in business or technical writing non-profit fundraising or higher education administration
  • Certified Fund Raising Executive (CFRE) and/or Grant Professional Certification (GPC)

Leadership & Supervisory:The incumbent has no authority or responsibility for the supervision of others or for project direction/program administration. The employee works under policy direction only and recommends goals and objectives for the department. Work is reviewed for intermediate-term results.

Environment & Working Conditions:Office environment is temperature controlled with occasional fluctuations well lit and free from loud noises and unnecessary interruptions.

  • Spending extended periods at a computer may cause eye strain headaches or stress.
  • Occasional travel to attend meetings could be necessary.
