Description

The Town of Eries Parks & Recreation Department is setting off on an adventure to uncover and share the rich and fascinating history of our Town and were inviting a curious and proactive individual to join us on this journey as our first History Intern!

As the History Intern youll help us seek out forgotten stories gather local legends and unearth hidden gems from the past. Think of it as historical detective work with a healthy dose of community spirit.

The goal of this internship is to provide experience in historical research documentation and the creation of interpretive resources that support the Towns Parks & Recreation programming and historical interpretation efforts.

Work Hours: Part-time;(Monday-Friday shifts) 20-30 hours per week with some nights and weekends as needed.

  • Schedule may vary depending on scheduled interviews and various events within the Town or Parks & Recreation Department

Primary Work Location: Schofield Farm (2203 North 111th Street)

  • Telework options available with onsite work as needed for research interviews or field documentation.

Pay Range Information

Hiring Range:

$20.00/hr - $25.00/hr

Supervision Exercised:

None.

Duties and responsibilities:

  • Conduct historical research using primary and secondary sources including archives libraries digital databases and local records.
  • Interview community members subject matter experts and former/current residents to capture oral histories.
  • Compile organize and summarize historical information for use in interpretive signage exhibits educational programs and publications.
  • Maintain accurate records of sources interviews and research findings in accordance with archival standards.
  • Assist with the development of historical timelines maps and other interpretive resources for Parks & Recreation facilities and open spaces.
  • Prepare written summaries reports and presentations of historical findings for staff use.
  • Support staff in planning heritage interpretation programming and events through research-based content.
  • Assist in cultural and heritage programming and events
  • Create digital and print resources (fact sheets storyboards short narratives) to support community engagement.
  • Perform other related work as assigned.

Administrative Duties:

  • Ensure proper citation and organization of research sources.
  • Input and manage data in digital files or Town-approved databases.
  • Prepare drafts of interpretive or educational materials for staff review.

Town Wide Expectations/Duties:

  • Serve as a professional ambassador of the Town by maintaining a professional image a team-based collaborative approach and high ethical standards.
  • Complete all required trainings in a timely manner.
  • Develop and accomplish goals and objectives to support the Department and Town mission.

Other/Miscellaneous:

  • Assist with special events or projects on behalf of the Department or Town.
  • Attend relevant historical society or advisory board meetings as assigned.
  • Perform related work as required and assigned.

Qualifications and Benefits

Minimum Qualifications

  • Obtained or in the process of obtaining a Bachelors or Associates degree in History Museum Studies Anthropology Public History Library Science or a closely related field

OR

  • a minimum of 36 months related research experience or

Any equivalent combination of education training and experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position can be considered.

Certificates/Licenses/Registrations

  • Valid drivers license and satisfactory driving record.

  • Previous coursework in historical research methods archival studies or oral history preferred.
