Descriptive Summary
The Teachers Aide supports the Lead Teacher and Assistant Teacher in creating a safe nurturing and developmentally appropriate classroom environment for children ages 6 weeks to 5 years. This role assists in carrying out daily routines supervising children maintaining compliance with state licensing regulations and fostering positive relationships with children families and staff.
Qualifications
Essential Functions
- Assist the Lead Teacher in implementing daily lesson plans and classroom activities that support each childs development.
- Provide direct care for children including feeding diapering toileting dressing and rest time routines in accordance with licensing health and safety standards.
- Supervise children at all times and ensure child-to-staff ratios are maintained.
- Help maintain a safe clean and organized classroom environment including sanitizing toys equipment and materials as required.
- Support childrens social-emotional growth by modeling positive interactions guiding behavior with respect and consistency and encouraging independence.
- Observe and share information with the Lead Teacher about each childs development progress and any concerns.
- Communicate effectively and respectfully with parents families and coworkers.
- Attend required staff meetings professional development sessions and annual training hours as outlined by Virginia licensing (minimum 16 hours per year).
- Comply with all center policies and Virginia Department of Education Child Day Center Licensing Standards.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Lead Teacher or Center Director.
Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge Skills and Abilities)
- 16 years or older
- High school diploma or equivalent required; coursework or credential in early childhood education preferred.
- Experience working with young children in a group setting preferred.
- Ability to lift up to 40 pounds and engage in active play.
- Strong communication teamwork and reliability.
- Commitment to diversity equity and inclusion in the classroom.
Schedule: Full-time or part-time.
Compensation: Hourly wage commensurate with education and experience.

Work Environment
- The work is performed in a typical office environment
