JOB TITLE:

Extension Specialist/Assistant Professor of Rangeland Ecology and Management

JOB PURPOSE:

The University of Wyoming (UW) seeks to hire an Assistant Professor/Extension Specialist on an eleven-month appointment. The tenure-track hire will be housed in the Department of Ecosystem Science and Management (ESM) within the College of Agriculture Life Sciences and Natural Resources. We seek a colleague with expertise in rangeland ecology and management as well as experience working with stakeholders and mentoring graduate and/or undergraduate successful candidate will be expected to develop a research and extension program to support Wyomings ranching families rural communities and economic and ecological resources through enhanced stewardship of rangelands.The successful candidate will join colleagues in ESM that collectively integrate rangeland ecology watershed management soil science restoration ecology and entomology as well as interact with colleagues working in agriculture and natural resources across the College.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Wyoming is a state characterized by expansive rangelands and rich natural of large herbivores is critical to Wyomings natural resource base and economy. Wyoming is among the top beef- and sheep-producing states where livestock are managed extensively on both public and private rangelands. Wyoming is also home to some of the largest wild ungulate populations in the United States and successful candidate is expected to develop asuccessful externally funded research and extension program in rangeland ecology and management with a focus on grazing and herbivoryand the broaderimplications of herbivory inrangeland systems e.g. rangeland health sustainable grazing and/orecosystem services. The successful candidate is also expected to publish peer-reviewed articles mentor graduate students and perform appropriate service activities for the University State and the facultys academic discipline.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Ph.D. at the time of hire in a discipline focused on rangeland ecology and management
  • Evidence of research productivity in the form of peer-reviewed journal publications
  • Valid drivers license with a motor vehicle record (MVR) compliant with the University Vehicle Use Policy.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Evidence of experience in extension and/or outreach in rangeland ecology and management
  • Evidence of experience with herbivory vegetation and plant communities on rangelands in the Western U.S.
  • Evidence of working with diverse groups of stakeholders to support sustainable rangeland stewardship community-based conservation and use of natural resources.
  • Evidence of success at obtaining grant funding
  • Evidence of experience mentoring undergraduate and/or graduate research
  • Postdoctoral experience
  • Evidence of excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Familiarity with Wyoming rangeland vegetation and plant communities on rangelands in the Western U.S.
