Job Summary

Serves as a Planner in the roadway Capital Planning & Initiation (CPI) unit performing transportation/project planning and coordination work for DOT funded street reconstruction projects including achieving the safety transit accessibility and quality public realm goals of the NYC Streets Plan and DOTs Strategic Plan. Plans an effective capital program by developing evaluating and prioritizing requests for projects in coordination with community members agency project sponsors and other stakeholders. Makes recommendations on policy and procedures. Conducts field surveys investigations studies and analysis as needed for potential and ongoing projects and programs. Creatively develops scopes of work for transportation projects in coordination with other DOT divisions agencies community boards and elected officials. Prepares reports performs analyses and reviews traffic studies program plans funding and performance. Matches projects with funding opportunities assisting in preparing grant applications and obligation as needed. Prepares reviews and assists in the development of project cost estimates. Tracks and updates project statuses and schedules in databases including MS Project. Represents the unit/division at public meetings with community members. Performs other related transportation infrastructure planning and coordination duties as assigned by supervisor.

Qualifications :

1. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university and two years of satisfactory full-time experience in city planning; or

2. A satisfactory combination of education and/or experience that is equivalent to 1 above. Graduate
education in city planning urban planning urban design architecture landscape architecture transportation engineering public administration economic development or related fields may be substituted for experience on the basis of 30 graduate semester credits from an accredited college for one year of experience. However all candidates must have a baccalaureate degree.

Special Qualification Requirements

Assignment Level III
To be eligible for placement in Assignment Level III individuals must have after meeting the minimum requirements one additional year of professional experience as described in 2 above.

Assignment Level IV
To be eligible for placement in Assignment Level IV individuals must have after meeting the minimum requirements two additional years of professional experience as described in 2 above.
