Essential Knowledge Skills and Abilities:

• Hold a Doctorate in Counselor Education and Supervision preferably from a CACREP accredited program.
• Licensure (or license eligible) as an LPC-Supervisor in Texas and clinical supervision experience.
• Evidence of counselor identity as evidenced through license as a counselor professional memberships in counseling related organizations (e.g. ACA/TCA ACES/SACES/TACES etc.) and publications and/or presentations in counseling-related venues.
• The ability to demonstrate professionalism in the community the institution the campus and the department.
  • Interact and communicate successfully with a diverse population.
  • Act in a way that embodies the mission vision and values of The Chicago School and the Dallas CMHC program.
  • Adhere to professional ethical standards state laws and international regulations.
  • Maintain licensure as a professional counselor in the state of Texas through ethical and professional behavior and pursuing ongoing continuing education.
  • Provide evidence of doctoral degree in Counselor Education and Supervision preferably from a CACREP accredited doctoral program.
  • Provide evidence of clinical experience and commitment to ongoing engagement in clinical service.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to the counseling profession through memberships active participation and volunteer service to counseling organizations or journals.
  • Demonstrate ability to remain calm and make decisions under pressure.
  • Demonstrate ability to manage multiple projects with multiple deadlines while meeting or exceeding expectations.
  • Understand and demonstrate an ability to navigate multiple levels of program hierarchies.
  • Commitment to resolve conflicts in a manner consistent with the ACA Code of Ethics (2014) and professional standards for counselors and counselor educators.
  • Demonstrate collegiality through professional commitment to the program.
  • Actively listen by giving full attention to what other people are saying taking time to understand the points being made asking questions as appropriate and not interrupting at inappropriate times or with inappropriate content.
  • Think critically to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions conclusions or approaches to problems.
  • Communicate ideas and information effectively in both verbal and written form.
  • Adapt to changing circumstances needs and demands.
  • Manage ones own time and the time of others effectively.

Principle Duties:

• Teaching (48%)
  • Teach 18 Credit Hours of courses (e.g. 3/3 or 2/2/2) each academic year with the ability to negotiate teaching overage.
  • Consult on the development and maintenance of coursework in areas of subject matter expertise.
  • Assist in mentoring adjunct faculty as needed to ensure quality assurance across the program and instructors.
  • Engage in self-reflective teaching practices and ongoing professional development in teaching and supervision best practices.
  • Engage in continuous course evaluation and seek supervision and support as needed to improve teaching outcomes.

• Advising (20 %)
  • Carry an equal share of student advising load between core faculty.
  • Work collaboratively with the student services department to support student retention and success.
  • Consult with students who encounter issues with program- or course-related challenges when appropriate.
  • Continuously collaborate with the counselor education faculty regarding student concerns support needs and remediation as needed.
  • Understand and enact the gatekeeping functions necessary in a clinical program with clarity compassion and kindness.

• Scholarship Service to the Profession and/or Service to the Community (20%): The following are examples but are not all required. The specific constellation of activities will be based on the faculty members interests and talents and negotiated with the department chair annually. Generally we ask faculty to be involved in at least three of the following.
  • Clinical counseling (e.g. private practice pro bono clinical service or supervision of post graduate LPCs). You are allowed 7.5 hours weekly to devote to clinical practice and may be able to practice from your TCSPP office. You may be asked to contribute time to a campus clinic. Clinical practice is considered equally valuable to your work as a professor as compared with other contributions.
  • Professional Service. Participation or leadership in a local state regional or national division of the American Counseling Association the American Mental Health Counseling Association or another reputable counseling organization. This is considered on equal value as other activities professors engage in.
  • Scholarly Activities. Research publication and/or presentations on a scholarly topic of interest. Publications and presentations are both considered scholarly activity of equal value.
  • Grant Writing. Collaborating with the TCSPP Office of Sponsored Programs and other faculty in identifying and writing grants for external funding for scholarly or educational programs that support the counselor education department.

• Institutional Service (12%)
  • Consult on the development and maintenance of a high quality clinical mental counseling health program consistent with CACREP standards.
  • Participate in interviewing prospective applicants.
  • Participate in new student orientation.
  • Participate in ongoing program development and continuous program assessment with other CMHC program faculty.
  • Participate in the Counselor Ed. department meetings.
  • Assist in the oversight of records management as needed.
  • Actively take ownership in gatekeeping function and supporting standards of professionalism articulated in the student handbook.

Position Qualifications:

• Doctorate in Counselor Education & Supervision conferred by August 2023.
• Prefer a candidate experienced with addictions including Motivational Interviewing.
• Clinical supervision experience.

• Experience teaching in a graduate counseling program.
• Prefer demonstrated success in teaching and supervising fieldwork setting.
• Licensed as a LPC or LPC-Supervisor in Texas or willingness to pursue licensure in Texas.
• Appreciation of innovation and creativity as a counselor educator.
• Evidence of cultural humility and an appreciation for social justice and multi-cultural competencies and evidence of support for these in approach to teaching supervision and your commitment to decolonizing counselor education and the counseling profession.
• Experience teaching career assessment diagnosis treatment planning and/or ethics a plus.
