The Liberty County Board of Commissioners is seeking qualified candidates for the full-time position of Fire Lieutenant within the Fire Rescue department. This position oversees all operations of an assigned fire station. The Fire Lieutenant serves as the first-line leader for a crew of certified firefighters providing supervision training and guidance to ensure effective and safe fire and emergency services.
Key Responsibilities
Emergency Response and Command: Serve as the commanding officer at fire scenes directing fire suppression rescue and hazardous materials mitigation.
Personnel Management: Lead mentor and evaluate the performance of assigned personnel. Serve as an instructor for in-service training and ensure personnel readiness through regular equipment and uniform inspections.
Emergency Medical Services: Provide emergency medical care to victims of fires and accidents within the designated scope of practice.
Operational Readiness: Maintain apparatus equipment and station facilities. This includes performing routine maintenance cleaning and assisting with inspections and testing essential firefighting tools.
Public Safety and Community Engagement: Present fire prevention information conduct public safety education and participate in community activities.
Administrative Duties: Prepare and complete shift and incident reports and create pre-incident plans for commercial buildings.
Required Knowledge Skills and Abilities
Technical Expertise: Comprehensive knowledge of fire science fire suppression techniques building construction and hazardous materials mitigation. The ideal candidate will have in-depth knowledge of firefighting apparatus operations including pumps ladders and vehicle systems.
Leadership and Supervision: Proven skill in managing and supervising personnel in both routine and high-stress emergency situations. The ability to quickly and effectively analyze hazardous situations and take appropriate action is essential.
Communication and Interpersonal Skills: Exceptional written and verbal communication critical thinking decision-making and problem-solving skills.
Operational Knowledge: Thorough knowledge of county policies local fire codes and the National Incident Management System (NIMS).
Emergency Medical Expertise: Knowledge of First Aid CPR and other emergency medical principles.
Minimum Qualifications
A valid Class E or F state of Georgia Drivers License or ability to obtain within 30 days of appointment.
More than three years of related experience.
Possession of the following certifications: NIMSand 800; Basic Life Support; EMT Responder or higher; Firefighter I and II; HazMat Core; Fire Officer I; and NPQ Instructor I.
Preferred Qualifications: An associates degree in a related field and Fire Officer II certification.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
This is a physically demanding role performed in a fire station and various emergency scenes. The work involves frequent lifting of heavy objects climbing ladders and operating specialized tools in a dynamic environment. The employee may be exposed to extreme heat smoke loud noise hazardous materials and infectious diseases. The use of protective gear is required.
