Job Summary

Provide technical support to users (60%)
  • Provide equipment usage training to cleanroom users
  • Provide process training to cleanroom users
  • Provide general assistance to cleanroom users
  • Write and edit existing SOPs for processes and equipment usage
Fabricate devices for clients (20%)
  • Coordinate with clients to develop process workflows for device manufacture
  • Maintain communication with clients to keep them informed of progress or the need to make adjustments to workflows or process parameters
  • See projects to conclusion in a timely and efficient manner
Oversee the basic maintenance of the cleanroom facility (15%)
  • Assist with housekeeping and regular cleaning of the facility
  • Assist with light maintenance of cleanroom equipment
  • Coordinate with KU EHS for hazardous waste disposal
  • Check and stock consumables such as gowning materials and process chemicals used within the facility as well as conduct inventory reporting and record-keeping
Miscellaneous (5%)
  • Represent the KU Nanofabrication Core Lab in scientific seminars and conferences
  • Lead tours of the facility for student recruiting and prospective clients
  • Participate in community outreach by contributing to university newsletters and providing demonstrations to local institutions

  1. B.S. in Physics Engineering Chemistry or related field and three (3) years experience with micro- and nanofabrication processes including photolithography thin film deposition wet chemical etching.
  2. One (1) year experience working with metrology equipment such as an SEM AFM or profilometer
  3. One (1) year experience providing instruction in scientific procedures
  4. One (1) year experience writing and editing existing SOPs for processes and equipment usage
  5. Strong written communication skills as evidenced by application materials


  1. M.S. in Physics Engineering Chemistry or related field with research experience with micro- and nanofabrication.
  2. Experience in working on collaborative projects as evidenced by application materials
  3. Experience with computer-aided design (CAD) software such as AutoCADas evidenced by application materials
  4. Experience supervising undergraduate student workersas evidenced by application materials
  5. Experience keeping inventories and ordering suppliesas evidenced by application materials
  6. Experience handling hazardous materials and chemicals such as hydrofluoric acid and have an understanding of how to determine the correct PPE for safely handling such materialsas evidenced by application materials


Position Overview
The KU Nanofabrication Core Laboratory of the COBRE Center for Molecular Analysis of Disease Pathways at KU is currently seeking individuals with a degree in Chemistry Engineering Physics or a related field who are interested in working in the field of micro- and nanofabrication in a limited term Assistant Researcher Senior position.
