We are seeking a Staff Certification Engineer (Energy Systems) to join our Certification team. The mission of this role is to help define a path to build and certify the first fully autonomous all-electric aircraft that performs and operates safely in an urban air-mobility environment.
This position is remote within the US (travel as needed).
As a Staff Certification Engineer specializing in Energy Systems you will play a key role in achieving Type Certification and supporting continued airworthiness and sustaining engineering efforts. You will help lead certification planning compliance documentation and regulatory engagement with a strong focus on propulsion electrical and power distribution systems as well as high-voltage technologies.
We are seeking a proactive and highly knowledgeable engineer with hands-on experience in certifying complex aircraft systems from concept through Type and Production Certification.
Coordinate technical meetings with the FAA Policy and Certification Branch Office.
Lead compliance documentation review prior to FAA submittal.
Lead certification design review and assign applicable regulations to propulsion and battery/energy systems.
Provide technical support for certification design review of other aircraft systems.
Support development of supplier oversight and evaluation processes and procedures.
Support configuration management and enterprise systems teams in building tools and processes for regulatory compliance.
Coordinate development of means and methods of compliance for propulsion and battery systems.
Manage and advance work instructions that define certification data maintenance within requirements management tools.
Bachelors or Masters degree in engineering or a related discipline.
8 years of experience working on aircraft Type Certification programs from concept to issuance of Type Airworthiness and Production Certificates.
Working knowledge in at least one of the following: 14 CFR Parts 23 25 27 or 29.
Experience conceptualizing authoring and executing organizational-level processes and work instructions.
Proven experience facilitating communication between applicants and the FAA on novel technologies and processes.
Technical expertise in designing prototyping testing and certifying Propulsion Electrical & Power Distribution and High Voltage Systems.
Experience with Polarian or equivalent requirements management tool.
Knowledge of 14 CFR Part 23 (Amendment 64) Performance-Based Rules.
Familiarity with ARP4754 ARP4761 DO-178 DO-254.
Experience operating in structured Project Management (PM) environments.
Understanding of Configuration Management (CM) principles and standards.
Knowledge of the Type Certificate conformity process including testing inspections and compliance documentation.
Experience as a participating member (or familiarity with) ASTM SAE RTCA or other industry standard organizations.
Experience in ISO9001 or AS9100 certified environments.
