The State of Michigan s Center for Educational Performance and Information (CEPI) is seeking an experienced SQL Database Administrator (DBA) to support database modernization and migration efforts. The selected candidate will lead and perform migrations of on-premises SQL Server databases and Windows Servers to the latest 2022 versions and assist in transitioning eligible workloads to Azure SQL Database.
This role will focus on ensuring database performance availability and security while optimizing existing ETL processes and automation frameworks. The ideal candidate has strong hands-on experience with SQL Server 2019/2022 Windows Server 2022 SSIS T-SQL PowerShell scripting and Azure SQL.
Key Responsibilities:Plan execute and validate migration of SQL Server instances from legacy versions to SQL Server 2022.
Support Windows Server migration from older versions to Windows Server 2022 ensuring compatibility with SQL components.
Analyze troubleshoot and optimize T-SQL queries stored procedures and database indexes for performance and efficiency.
Manage configure and deploy SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS) packages for ETL and data transformation workloads.
Design and implement database backup recovery high availability (HA) and disaster recovery (DR) strategies.
Develop and maintain PowerShell scripts for database administration automation and migration tasks.
Collaborate with developers and data teams to ensure optimal database schema design and data integrity.
Support Azure SQL Database configuration migration and performance tuning.
Maintain documentation of database configurations migration plans and operational procedures.
Adhere to CEPI and State of Michigan security compliance and data governance standards.
7 years of experience as a SQL Database Administrator in enterprise environments.
Proven experience with SQL Server migration projects (preferably to SQL Server 2022).
Hands-on experience migrating and configuring Windows Server 2022 for SQL workloads.
Strong proficiency in T-SQL development performance tuning and optimization.
Expertise with SSIS (SQL Server Integration Services) for ETL and data processing.
Strong PowerShell scripting skills for database automation and server administration.
Experience implementing and managing Azure SQL Database solutions.
Knowledge of database security backup/recovery strategies and high availability configurations (Always On clustering log shipping etc.).
Ability to work collaboratively with infrastructure development and DevOps teams.
Excellent troubleshooting analytical and communication skills.
Experience with Azure Data Migration Service (DMS) or Azure Data Factory (ADF) for database migrations.
Familiarity with Azure Active Directory and role-based access control (RBAC).
Knowledge of state government data environments and compliance standards.
Prior experience supporting educational performance or statewide data systems is a plus.
Microsoft Certified: Azure Database Administrator Associate or SQL Server Database Administrator certification.
Bachelor s degree in Computer Science Information Systems or related field or equivalent professional experience.
