The Performing Arts Department of Emerson College is seeking an affiliated faculty member with expertise in Musical Theatre Choreography and Directing to teach a Spring 2025 course.This course works with the senior cohort of the BFA Musical Theatre majors and emphasizes the integration of skills (acting singing and dancing) to connect their undergraduate training with the professional industry. Potential curriculum includes dance ensemble work with emphasis on styles and spacing (number line) song and dance with emphasis on complex part singing and mock auditions with emphasis on a diversity in styles of dance. The pace should be rigorous and one that is realistic to a professional setting. Faculty should have a proficiency in honing acting skills within the context of song and dance. Faculty who can play piano will provide their own music support in this course but for those without piano skills an accompanist will be provided.
We encourage applications from candidates who teach about the performing arts in ways that expose power relationships and oppressive practices that are normalized in dominant cultures and who explore race gender sexuality and class dynamics through their work.
