Groundsman

American Iron & Metal (AIM) is looking for an enthusiastic and proactive Groundsman to join our Rail Team on a rotational shift. In this role you are responsible for providing safe and efficient rail car switching services working in a fast-paced environment. The ideal candidate must have a strong work ethic and great communication skills. 

What youre responsible for:

• Ensuring safe operation of the locomotive and train movements
• Ability to carry out specific instructions detailing a trains route and specific movements
• Perform switching of railcars including coupling and uncoupling cars and is able to lift out coupling devices
• Signaling crew members for movement of the engine or train using a radio to indicate when to start stop back-up set or release air brakes
• Having the ability to move on and off moving or stationary equipment while the train is in motion during yard switching
• Riding moving rail cars using the ladder on the side for extended amount of periods of time

Qualifications :

• You have previous experience as a groundsman OR working within a rail team is preferred
• You have excellent teamwork skills and clear communication 
• You are physically fit including the ability to pull oneself up and down from a railcar continuously 
• You are able to lift (50lbs) and twist air hoses secure rail car brakes derails and switches
• You are proactive with the ability to take action/assess a situation with teams safety paramount 
• You are comfortable with physically demanding work in all-weather conditions
