Job Description
The Animal Control Officer III will primarily focus on responding to calls involving bite cases in the field. The ideal candidate must be able to communicate appropriately and effectively with the citizens and staff. The incumbent must be able to determine the differences between dangerous and vicious cases and issue appropriate citations for bite cases as well as perform euthanasia as necessary andpreparespecimens for rabies testing.
Essential Duties
- Answer calls and emails for service
- Communicate with the veterinarian offices to ensure animals are in quarantine for the appropriate time and/or at home quarantine
- Monitor the animals in quarantine at the animal shelter every morning
- Assist with logging bite cases in the state reporting system
- Handle situations with the owners of animals involved in bite cases in the field independently and perform daily area patrols for stray animals involved in the bite cases
- Provide training to all AWE staff
- Deliver specimens to the state lab and to UGA as needed
- Investigate dangerous and vicious dog cases
- Assist with the hearings and attend court cases

- This job is safety sensitive position that will require a pre-employment drug test and subsequent random drug and alcohol testing.
- This job will require a 50-pound lift test
- This job may require on-call rotation and emergency after hours weekends and/or holidays.
Grade
- The grade for this position is B23(3). The salarywill be based on internal policies.
Effective 4/11/2023 this position is eligible for the Employee Referral Program.
Minimum Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED
- Three years of animal control enforcement experience
- Or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above
- Valid drivers license
- Asp Baton training
- Basic Chemical Capture training
- Crematory training
- Euthanasia training
- Pre-Exposure Rabies vaccine or current titer
- State Inmate Supervisor training
- Defensive Driving Certificate
