The North Sea Canal Area Environmental Service (Omgevingsdienst Noordzeekanaalgebied) is looking for an experienced and analytical Air & Odor Advisor to join the Expertise Environment & Sustainability team. Based in Zaandam this temporary assignment focuses on advising municipalities companies and regional bodies on air quality and odor-related environmental issues.
This is a key advisory position that supports environmental policy enforcement licensing and regulatory compliance contributing to a healthier and more sustainable living environment in the region.
Provide expert advice on air quality and odor issues in the context of environmental permitting and enforcement
Support assessments for industrial activities and spatial planning projects
Analyze environmental impact studies and technical documentation
Collaborate with internal departments and external stakeholders (municipalities industry consultants)
Develop policy recommendations and contribute to technical standards and guidelines
Keep up to date with legislation best practices and innovations in air quality management
Act as a point of contact for air/odor complaints and advise on mitigation strategies
HBO/WO degree in Environmental Sciences Chemistry Chemical Engineering or related technical field
Proven experience in environmental advisory roles preferably within government or regulatory agencies
Knowledge of air quality legislation odor dispersion models and environmental permitting (Wet milieubeheer Activiteitenbesluit etc.)
Strong analytical skills and ability to interpret complex technical data
Excellent communication skills in Dutch (written and spoken)
Experience with software/tools for dispersion modeling is a plus (e.g. ISL3A V-Stacks)
Able to work both independently and in multidisciplinary teams
Flexible and solution-oriented mindset
Contract period: October 20 2025 December 31 2025
Work location: Zaandam on-site presence expected as needed

Travel within the North Sea Canal region may occasionally be required
